Not to long ago I was having a discussion about media types that don't typically get the credit they deserve. Although Anime has expanded, it remains to be something not noticed by mainstream. With that in mind my friend had a very vague views towards anime and disagreed with it possibly being an "Emotional Experience". I suggested he watched Ghost In The Shell. About a week later he was getting into Ace of Tennis and Gurren Lagann and was completely hooked.

What did you show your friends to spark their interests?

A bit cliché I'm sure, but for those who ask me I always recommend Attack on Titan. It's turned quite a few people I know into anime fans. It seems to be a perfect gateway anime for the un-experienced I've found. After that, I recommend other shows that aren't to fan servicey and "weird" by non anime fan standards. The further they get in, the more creative I get with the shows I recommend. It's almost like an experiment to see how far my friends are willing to go in terms of what anime they watch, but no one's made it to Highschool DxD yet haha

Attack on titan was horribly boring for me couldn't get past like episode 5.

I think it really just depends on the personality type and interests of the person you're trying to get involved with anime.

For example I wouldn't recommend a heavy violent anime to someone thats squeamish.

Though if you want a good laugh and don't care if they get into anime or not, try to get the most otaku anime you can find and watch their reactions.

You just bridge the gap.... I've been trying to get my friend to watch initial d cause he is into cars and what not... it is still pretty hard... he is the stubborn type though. I think I am close to getting him to watch it tho lol. Then again... he randomly watched some things I haven't even watched so idk lol.... I wouldn't consider him an anime fan though.
