So people keep saying that this series is good and it's one of the best shows out there. I'm six episodes in and I'm not really seeing the appeal. The only thing driving me forward is the fact that I want to see the main character fight more because she's kinda cool if I'll be honest. My question is for those who enjoyed it: Did it hook you from the start? Was it a slow show that took some episodes to gain your full interest and attention? Is the story itself really good (as in comparable to the best you've seen) or is it just one of those shows that you REALLY enjoy for what ever reason, be it the characters, setting, action, ect? I plan to watch this entire series no matter what the response I get. I'm just curious to know why some people think it is so good. If you didn't enjoy it then i'd also like to hear why. Though I'm pretty sure you wouldn't click on a Kill la Kill thread unless you enjoyed it. Or passionately hate it :P

Also, don't worry about spoiling the show. I'd like to hear your full thoughts if anyone is willing to give them.

am a big fan. but yeah admittedly I didn't get into it early on, it took like several episodes for me to get into it... I don't know exactly how many episodes. but I just know that I didn't get hooked until later on in the series---it took a while for everything to sink in, and for me to make sense of the universe (of the anime) and what is going on.

I suppose the character that kept my interest at the start was mako mankanshoku... I would have dropped it if it wasn't for her quirkiness.

KLK is not good. But it can be entertaining. The characters mostly carry it even though they're very underutilized.

All the scenes I clearly remember liking were from the first couple episodes though.

I think it comes down to getting past the "villain of the week" p[hase of the show and actually getting into the plot.

We get the Princess seeking to overthrow the Queen
Rebel armies against the empire
Alien Invasions
Lost sibling reunited

Once it gets running the show is pretty damn epic

That is your oppinion. I personally think of Kill la Kill as a very good Anime. I didn't get into it early on, I was unsure about the art style and the fight of the week type structure annoyed me. I initially dropped it after like four episodes, but when I picked it up again, it didn't take me long to really get hooked. Once the first few episodes pass and it gets to the stuff it really wants to address, Kill la Kill can be absolutely brilliant. It's very interesting visually and has a lot more layers to it than you first realize, you just have to pay attention to it. And even if you don't want to do that, it still works as an ejoyable enough action show. But let me tell you, you'd be missing out, as some of the stuff Kill la Kill chooses to talk about is actually pretty damn interesting and thought provoking, the way it is presented only adds to that.
Is it the saviour of Anime? No, but it is definitely among the best of its year and one I don't regret giving an 8/10 to.

PS: The OST is amazing, go buy that shit.

The series does have a pretty rocky start, but the actual overarching story starts to fall into place during the Naturals Election arc near the middle of the series. After that, it gets a lot better.

I adore kill la kill, but to be honest I didn't realise it was so good until around half way through the show. It was entertaining enough to keep watching in the first half and I was still enjoying it. After it ended I went back and watched it again and noticed more themes and details I missed or didn't see as being important in my first viewing, that's when I really began to love it, its surprisingly dense with symbolism and cool little details.

Love the action... Love the characters... (Yes even Mako) Love the art style... Love the insane plot

And trust me, you don't want to spoil the show, it has some really good twists!

Finally, something we can agree on!

Though, boost up your score 2 points for me.

@Topic

KLK I believe was a damn masterpiece and rivals that of Gurren Lagann (GL is still better though). I was hooked from the first episode. The bombastic action, the badass characters, the fast and fluid animation, the fantastic OST, all of it just drew me in. KLK has some of the best symbolism I've ever seen in an anime and its message is strong and captivating. Once the series dives deeper into its plot it gets ridiculously good and everything starts to tie in together.

Probably making it to episode 10, you'll start being more on board with it and by episode 15 you'll be glued to the screen.

What I'd consider a masterpiece is Shinsekai Yori (from the new world). I've seen a lot of good shows but that was probably the single most greatest one. So by my standards (my new standards since i watched that show xD), I have a hard time believing I'll consider KLK a masterpiece. But I know how to keep an open mind so I''m pretty sure I'll end up thinking the show is good. Thanks for the relies all, I basically wanted to see if I could look forward to a decent story or if the model of the first few episodes stayed throughout. I'm excited to keep going now.

Yes, basically. I did enjoy some of the scenes in the end though...just for the mindlessness of it.
