It is said that to be blind is to lose the world of things. To be deaf is to lose the world of people.

I learned that while taking ASL. I dont know if I could choose but that's my two cents about what the choice boils down to.

I'd rather be born blind instead of deaf. But I'd rather go deaf later instead of blind.

Reason being, congenital deafness seems to be more debilitating to someone's ability to manage interpersonal relationships, as well as to learn. At least from my experiences.

I feel its an entirely different story for those who go deaf after they've developed. Not to say people born deaf are drooling imbecils who can't do anything though...I'm sure there's plenty of smart deaf people out there. But they do definately have a lot of disadvantages.

I'd rather be blind. Being deaf would make it difficult to communicate since you can't hear what people are saying. You can't understand how words are supposed to sound. That sounds pretty scary. It reminds me of a thread recently that asked how deaf people think in their heads since they don't know what languages sound like. Not being able to see sounds scary too but at least you can still talk normally and hear what's going on around you. Not to mention, being blind would mean you have to enhance your other sense like hearing in order to compensate for your loss. I already have bad eye sight anyways.

I'm detecting humor in your words and you don't actually mean that.

Think the thread you're talking about will become redundant if applied to you. You'd already have an inner voice by now so when you go deaf, you have enough to work with. When you have people type to you on threads, i'm sure you'd judge the tone from the text in your head. You'd enhance your other senses if any of your senses fail.

I wasn't trying to sound humorous. Although, I probably could've worded that better. I have an inner voice in my head but that's because I already know what language sounds like. I can't imagine what it's like for people who are born deaf. If I was deaf my entire life, I wouldn't know what the words I'm typing even sound like. If I just became deaf later in life, I wouldn't have to worry about that but it would still be pretty awful not hearing anything around me and having to rely on hand signals. I'm not saying being blind is that much better. It's just a personal preference. I'd rather keep my hearing than my eyesight.

You're right, we don't get a choice in this, it's pretty horrible to even contemplate... I'm not going to tempt fate

I would rather be blind because I know blind people who have been successful in life, I have never heard of deaf people who became important in life, which means that being blind gives you the oportunity to speak clearly, listen to music and play music (which is my passion ) and even listening to audio books so I wouldn't miss my books. They also say that blind people develop another sense, they can feel people and surroundings better than normal people.

Also, many people want to be deaf because they wouldn't be able to watch anime....I have watched anime without volume, it is the most horrible experience ever. I don't think I would enjoy watching something without sound.

Deaf.
I would be unable to do my job without sight.
I would just have to rely more heavily on email correspondence.

Besides, most of the time, I would just be like:

╭∩╮(︶︿︶)╭∩╮ ......."I'm sorry, I can't hear you."
