So I've been watching a lot of Mr Children videos on Youtube today. I've heard of them before (I think quite an old, famous Japanese band), but I never (consciously) heard any of their stuff until I watched the drama version of Nobunaga Concerto. This is one of the main theme songs that gets played a lot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhUPZKAAwyA

I bought a Yuzu album because of Hunter x Hunter and considered doing so for GARNiDELiA (Kill la Kill second OP, which I did buy). The only other Japanese music thing I have is Metal Clone X because it featured Marty Friedman. So I don't really know much about J-Pop J-Rock etc other than what I heard him mention (He's a big fan of Japanese music).

Anyway...

I always see Japanese groups and singers popping up on people's CR profiles, so I was wondering which of those you were introduced to because of an anime OP, ED, or Soundtrack?

I'd say it happens for me fairly often and almost every season. A recent example would be BRADIO, the band that does the opening for Death Parade. If it wasn't for Death Parade, I may have never heard of this band. While looking up BRADIO songs on youtube, I came across this...

...a live action version of the Death Parade OP done by them. It's always nice to see a band so into the anime they provide music for. Had to buy the CD single just for that.

But anyways, I think anime OPs, EDs, and OSTs introduce a lot of people to new singers and bands.

Im not a big J-pop or J-rock fan but there are a few groups that i do like out there. Boom Boom Satellites and Skankfunk are the 2 i like the most for actual bands in the J-rock.

bleach for akfg, Klk for garnidelia, gundam wing for two-mix, sao for lisa.

Way too many to list all, surprising how many anime have got me listening to the same artist's other works.

HxH got me into Fear and Loathing Las Vegas.

.Hack got me into Yuki Kajiura and her multiple projects however I'm sure I would have gotten into her eventually seeing as she is very popular to use for anime.

The Casshern movie got me into The Back Horn they also did a Gundam opening.

Deadman Wonderland OP got me into Fade.

This doesn't pertain to a Japanese band/singer, but certain AMV's on YouTube have to me into bands such as Thousand Foot Krutch, Spoken, Ashes Remain, etc.

Anime themes have led to half my music playlist being J-rock/metal/pop. Some bands directly from anime like An Cafe, The Gazzette, Nico Touches the Walls. Probably about 100 songs from various artists used in an anime.
Then at some point it exploded into finding lots of great J-rock/metal bands (mostly Visual Kei) that haven't had any songs involved in an anime. Like Diaura, Royz, Nocturnal Bloodlust, -Oz-, Alsdead, ViViD, and many others.

Yes I suppose it has haha. Prior to watching AMV's I probably would've never listened to bands like these.

Quite a few but the most notable would probably be Supercell thanks to the Black Rock Shooter music video/OVA/anime and Bakemonogatari .
