Post Reply Otakon 2015 Baltimore
Posted 7/22/15
So.... I just visited Draft King's Youtube Channel.............

They sound amazing live, or at least in the samples they have. For the first time, I'll go to a concert at an anime convention. Anyone else going?

It is almost time. I hope all goes well :3.

I'll be heading down to Otakon this year, this would make it my 14th year. Every year is a blast and every year ends up earning a title : "The year the water main broke" or "The year the fire alarm went off"

If any CR members want to hang out or share a beer together, I'll be more than willing to hang out. Going to go down with two first year Otakon goers, it's always fun to see the eyes light up

Looking forward to everything at the con and CR presence. Although in previous years, I remember talking to and meeting with staff. The last couple of years CR has managed to afford 'booth babes' and last year one I met hardly knew the ins and outs of CR. Good to see CR's growth, hope to meet some CR staff this year

Get that ice cold water!!! and it's only one DOLLAR!!!

Isn't it usually 3-10PM?

I'm not picking mine up on Thursday, but those times tend to be good. It is common knowledge that swinging by at 5-6PM makes the wait like ~20minutes, and because of that it makes me think it really does start at 3 (to get most of the eager people out of the way and always have a relaxed line in the late afternoon/super early evening.

Best of luck :3.

Me too. Been here since about 8am

Its been interesting at least.

Kinda has my head spinning a bit trying to keep track of all the goings on. Sat in some panels, some show viewings, etc. Currently awaiting the AMV contest and having an artist in artist alley do a commission sketch.

I really want to pick up some figures and scrolls, but there is some pricey stuff here that's for sure.

My only real disappointments so far are that I can not find ANY code Geass, Strike the Blood or The Familiar of Zero merch.

Was an amazing first day got a lot of pics now to figure out what to do the rest of the night. The only downside to coming to a con by yourself is figuring out what to do with your time.

If anyone wants to get together and hang out give a yell

My friends and I basically went "together-alone," not to be confused with "alone-together."

We all are busy (not me really) so we just went and did our own things. Plenty of things to do though, even by yourself, so I didn't mind. They promised to see something together tomorrow though :3

I'll just edit for my last thing on Otakon. I really liked 3 of the ~8 panels I went to, much better percentage than most conventions I've been to. The cosplayers were friendly too. I won't be there for Sunday - it was fun though. Just for me: It was fun and a tiny bit lonely. I think I am just better suited for 10k-15k attendee conventions. I also blame not having cosplay this time.

I'm hopeful for next year and the other upcoming local conventions though. The last Otakon I went to was in 2007 and I had a way worse experience, so I am actually pretty thrilled. Though this thread has been inactive, hope ya'll continue to have fun. We should really coordinate a real meet up next time.

Favorite Panels:

The biggest news for me:
Muv-Luv Kickstarter. I learned it is old news, but when I saw it being hosted in the Sekai Project booth, I asked them, "is this real life?" I was still excited for it during their industry panel. [I don't particularly like those types of panels especially because I don't like most of anything, including visual novels].

Have fun guys, last day!

I felt like Otakon was pretty good this year. Again it is what you make it to be.

It definitely felt like there was less people this year probably due to the price hike and Baltimore riots.
I also went with friends but I ran mostly solo because my "interest level" was different from them, I wanted to hit every voice actor panel and they had no idea who most of the guests were, and I wanted to do amateur street photography and they were cosplaying so that is like water and oil. It's impossible to do street photography with a group of cosplaying friends because they attract too much attention.

Most of the official guest panels are almost always worth going.
Travis Willingham, Lauren Landa, Kaiji Tang, and J.Micheal Tatum were all really fun and interactive with their fans.

It's always a pleasure to listen to the Japanese guests (Aldnoah Zero panel and Romi Park) because they are always happy to be here because American fans are treat them like rock stars compared to really conservative Japanese fans.

I have to say if you like free stuff. Otakon Game Show on Friday is always a good time. There are contestants that get chosen through some audition process to play each other in a Jeopardy like format game and the audiences gets to play with them by using their cell phones to text in the answer. At the end of category one random audience member that got the question right gets chosen for a free prize and the one audience member who gets the most points at the end of the night wins like a lot of free shit.

The Aniplex Game Show on Sunday was also really good. Just for that panel I'll never leave Otakon early. again. This game show was really informal and totally 100% audience involved. This year prizes were really good, they were probably giving out 15 some Sony Walkman as prizes on top of CD, posters, and models. Easily over 1000 dollars of prizes just based on the Walkmans.

As always Voice Actors After Dark is the best panel on Saturday but unwritten rule is you don't talk about it because it's too awesome to describe in words other than if you are 18 or older get that wristband and lineup at least 2 hours in advance.

There was also an Okinawan style Taiko drumming presentation in the Live Programming room. They were really entertaining and they were insanely humble.

The Crunchyroll panel was great. I think Sailor Bee of Crunchyroll was there. The entire panel brought a lot of charisma. The audiences' reaction was priceless when they showed a clip of Monster Museme on the big screen. I don't think I've seen that many people beet red in one room. I think they said if you had a premium account, log in at the Crunchyroll booth and they gave you a free poster.

I have some pictures that I made into an album in case anyone missed Otakon. I made it street photography style to convey the feeling of what it feels like to walk among the convention. It's slightly different than the usual cosplay centric pictures floating around online.

Remember next year is the last year in Baltimore before they move to DC.
