Episode 9

Today's meal is kani miso and sake. This dish comes from the brain of a crab that are normally tossed away and as such, there's not much of it. But every little bite has a lot of flavor to it, as well as the meaning of life. She's full after eating such a small dish alright,

I guess I'm no food connoisseur, so I'd probably have to be in this state to eat that dish... Yea, I looked it up, so I'll put this on the same list of food dishes that I must try, such as haggis...

Not just crab brains... but it really is the best part. The same treatment can be given to large shrimp too.

And in a way the comparison to haggis is not that far off as there are more things common to haggis in it than the small amount of crab brains.

They don't toss away much in Japan. Go to "Hormone BBQ" if you want to eat every part of the pig but the squeal, BBQ'd at your own table, similar to Korean BBQ which is why many subs unfortunately call it and yakiniku Korean BBQ.

I often read comments that her eyes are strange. It's all the better to see the perfect restaurant for the evening.

If that's the case, then it didn't last long, because today there is this:

Episode 10

Deep-fried asparagus skewer is on the menu for today's dish, paired with beer. Wakako just wants something that others are eating and seeing that it's a veggie that it's healthy to some degree. The asparagus itself is the skewer with some deep fried stuff on it. That sure does hit the spot.

This was a fun episode. I had the amusing experience of travelling to Japan with a vegetarian. We went everywhere looking for something he could eat and deep fried asparagus was something we never found. Everywhere we went it was as she described, it was always vegetables wrapped in meat or with meat on top. The whole concept of not eating meat is as foreign to them as the idea that having sex outside your marriage is bad (unless you intend to leave your marriage, that's bad but no-strings sex is just fine). They like vegetables, don't get me wrong but a meal without meat is just... impossible for them to even imagine. So the best we could do while there was buy a meal and split it, he would have the vegetables... even most salads had meat on top!

Need to take note and see if any of these places are (still) around to visit next time I'm in town.
