I was a pretty skilled MTG player and used to play with tourney peeps back in the day. I stopped after getting to college since the power curve is just insane now and the cards cost way too much and there's nobody to play with. I still have my old MTG decks and take care to keep them in good condition but they're pretty much relegated to shelf decoration at this point since I can't foresee myself getting back into it, even though I'm still extremely familiar with the mechanics. Playing MTG is as natural as breathing even though I don't keep up with the metagame anymore.

I don't actually play Cardfight myself but, lately, I have found myself more and more interested in it. I like the playstyle and the game seems deep enough, yet easy to learn. Some of the artwork for the cards are gorgeous. I sense a money black hole but I can't stop looking at the cards and looking at strategies and articles.

It seems less shallow and easy than YU-Gi-Oh, the cards look nicer, and the mechanics are fun. I love how diverse the clans are. I'm considering Oracle Think Tank or Dark Irregulars if I get into Cardfight.

Does anyone here collect or play Cardfight? What do you think of the game? Favorite clan and strategies? How is the metagame and how fast do cards become obsolete? What noticeable mechanics are new or overpowered or just crazy?

It’s a fun card game but the problem is thats it’s hard to find people to play with. I used to know some players before an acquaintance of mine got them crazy into Magic the gathering.

It’s not too hard to learn.

Clans i personality used are Dimension Police and Link joker. Dimension police is a build up pressure deck that mainly focus on one big attack from the vanguard. Link joker “lock” your opponents units. Lock is that they can’t used that unit for their next turn(can’t boast/attack with it).

Meta, your better off going to the official english forum for that.

Cards become obsolete when each season of the anime is release but are still usable

Season 2 introduce limit break(extra power when you have 4 or more damage, making everyone scramble to get one.

Season 3 was break ride(riding a grade 3 on a grade 3 for a 10k boast) and link joker(main enemy clan of season 3/4)

Season 4 was when it really got crazy with legions(a free 20k attack not including ability). One of my 2 friend became terrified to ride grade 3 because of this.

The new season G which is basically, the gx of vanguard, which i’m still learning about. It basically change the meta by introducing stride, which i’m still learning about. It basically introduced the extra deck(max of 8 cards, all rank 4 ( that yugioh has along with a new rank, rank 4.

Vanguard's cool. I like how season 5 products are cheaper. Before G, it was required to get 4 trial decks to build a specific deck. Now, you just have to get to 3 G Trial decks and then you'll be ready to cardfight.

My favorite clans are Gold Paladin, Bermuda Triangle, Oracle Think Tank, and Genesis. Golds call units from the top of the deck. Bermuda Triangle gets pluses from bouncing units back to hand. OTT's good attracting extra cards. Genesis is kinda a copycat clan.

Meta's dominated by the restanding units, the cards with the attacking twice skills.

Hmm, I heard someone say that almost any deck that you put a reasonable amount of logical thought into is viable and that it all comes down to triggers. Is this true?

I've been browsing the cards and still don't fully understand the G Zone and its associated mechanics. It seems like people forget about the mechanics and cards in the previous generation despite their power and focus on new stuff, like Stride and Legion. I don't really see anyone using Megablast or Limit Break anywhere, it seems.

Some notable cards I am really interested in:

CEO Amaterasu - She seems to be from the first generation but her abilities seem so good to me. Oracle Think Tank appeals to me quite a bit since drawing extra cards seems like it would be extremely helpful. You get guarding units and more choices for the offensive.

Supreme Heavenly Battle Deity, Susanoo - I like the idea of getting more power for holding more cards. Oracle Think Tank seems like it wouldn't have trouble drawing enough extra cards to keep in hand.

Goddess of the Full Moon, Tsukuyomi - Seems like you can rig like 15 cards and cycle pretty quickly through the deck by using Godhawk and all the other lower grade Tsukuyomis. Since the deck only has 50 cards and you'll already have drawn at least 3 + your starting hand by the time you ride all the way to Tsukuyomi, and you continue to draw cards and use other units to put cards at the bottom of the deck, this seems REALLY good. Full Moon's ability also helps you cycle even quicker and helps with card advantage. As a former MTG player, I LOVE card advantage.

Battle Sister, Monaka - Tasty, tasty, card advantage. And a power boost to boot.

Demon World Marquis, Amon - He looks like he can get really beefy and scary really fast since lots of Dark Irregular stuff sends things to the soul.

No Life King, Death Anchor - Same as Amon.

Ultimate Dimensional Robo, Great Daiyusha - Dimension Police units seem to go all crazy with their attack powerups. This guy also has the coolest name.

Immortal, Asura Kaiser - Seems ridiculously powerful. I'm not sure how practical he is but he looks strong to me.

It depends. A deck's viability depends on whether it can handle the meta or not. Triggers do play a key role though.

Strides stay on the G Zone because they can't be in the main deck. They're usually face down. Stride occurs after the ride phase once conditions and costs are met. The condition is that both players have Grade 3+ vanguards. The cost is discarding cards that add up to grade 3 to the drop zone. Once that's met, you can stride your G unit. The G unit takes the name of the heart (ie Harmonics Messiah becomes CEO Amaterasu). The Stride unit adds the original power (ie 15000+10000). The unit will attack with its new power. Triple drive check. Then put the G unit face up after the end of your turn. Check the official site if you need more clarification on the Generation stuff.

Limit Break decks can be still played. Fighter's Collection 2015 will have strides for every clan,'cept Etranger.

CEO Amaterasu/Goddess of Treasured Mirror, Ohirume - the legion offers more for this deck.

Susanoo/Tsukuyomi - stacking triggers.

Monaka/Battle Sister, Gelee or Hexagonal Magus - You can stack crits if you pair Monaka with the break ride. If you use Gelee, watch your counterblast usage.

Amon/Amon's Leader, Astaroth - Amon has its own G4 unit from Fighter's Collection! More power!

Great Daiyusha/True Daikaiser (legion) - Guard crush combined with break ride (Daikaiser) is a deadly combo. You can crush 2 guardian units if you pull it off. This deck will get a boost from Cosmic Roar.

Not quite sure with Death Anchor or Asura Kaiser.

no life king, death anchor can probability pair up will blade wing reify. http://cardfight.wikia.com/wiki/Blade_Wing_Reijy Death Anchor could build the soul up and deal some early damage. While blade wing reify can be the finishing blow.

But what do i know, I don’t play dark irregulars.

Things to know about making this type of deck. Don’t make it too counter blast heavy. If you’re running death anchor, you can’t use counter blast for his ability.

Limit breaks in my opinion should be used as finishing blows. Legion is for early to mid game, Stride see legion.

Thanks for the info on the G Units. It was helpful. I do have another question though....

Since we can start the game with up to 8 cards in the G-Zone, do the rules tell us whether the G Deck has to be shuffled before the game begins? Or do we put G Units in a certain arrangement as we choose before placing the G Deck?

Yes, I was looking at Blade Wing Reijy as well. 3 crit sounds deadly but his base power is only 10000 and it seems like it would take a fair amount of buffing from other sources to make sure his attack lands. It seems silly to bet on your opponent not having any guard cards when you've spent so much effort getting cards to feed Reijy's soul. I'm thinking Stride or Limit Break would be good with Reijy. Not sure if Reijy's abilities still work the turn you Stride, though. It seems like they won't.

No problem. It's not necessary to shuffle your G Units before your match. It's easier if you line them up by name. Like 4x Harmonics and 4x Miracle Element, Atmos for example. We just have to decide where to put to the G Zone before a match. Putting the G Zone above the Damage Zone is fine.

Use the G1 limit break enabler if you're going to use break ride or Master of Fifth Element with Reijy. Units like Doreen the Thruster and Yellow Bolt can be useful. Then again, Dark Irregulars'll have their G support from G Box 3 later this year. The latest Vanguard episode showed the G Dark Irregular units, so there's that if you're interested.

Oh, ok. So we can basically decide when to use which G-Unit without our opponents knowing, then. Pretty cool.

I'm starting to lean more heavily toward Oracle Think Tank now. Considering a Susanoo/Amaterasu deck. The cards seem a lot cheaper for some reason, and I enjoy their flavor.

What clans do you guys use and why did you choose them?

I have bunch of decks, but I haven't played for awhile. I used Gold Paladin because it was my first clan. Then I got into Bermuda Triangles because of their art and bounce mechanics. For OTTs, I wanted to run Battle Sisters after getting the extra booster.

You can run Silent Tom in your OTT deck, but it's pricy card. The card can block your opponent from guarding with Grade 0s. Use the Diviners from G Box 1 instead.

I love Cardfight!! Vanguard. I wasn't that good at Yu-Gi-Oh! (and I tried for years), but it definitely clicked for me when I started playing vanguard. My clan is Dimensional Police and I run the Daikaiser deck (haven't updated anything since legion-mate though). The strategy and flow of the game is amazing in my opinion, and the whole luck based thing with triggers isn't so bad.

Only play casually and main a Link Joker deck. (Hybrid Glendios / Halcion deck)
Also have a Bermuda Triangle and Angel Feather deck.

Real fun card game to play, not too hard to get into and pick up as well.
