That article is pretty painful.
It's not really that bad but like you said it's not really helping either. Just lazy bad journalism if you ask me.

VN's are still a niche even here but there's definitely more people interested in them than most other places.

Yup, MangaGamer is doing it right. Unlike some other companies(yhym Moenovel), they're providing 2 versions for people to choose from. Getting into Steam is important but the option to buy the original should still be there.

I used to do D&D but fallen out of sorts due to not having any of the newer books or any books anymore really and nobody to really play with em.

This is my problem. I have a bunch of great RPG systems and I love reading the rulebooks... but can I find anyone to play 'em with? Can I hell.

Grabbed a copy of Maid: The Role-Playing Game (http://www.maidrpg.com/) at PAX East recently and am desperate to give it a shot, but I somehow think it will be a tough sell to my local friends...

Ooh, that looks fantastic

Doesn't it? I am dying to try it. The rulebook is hilariously written, too, with lots of "replays" (scripts of actual play sessions) and dialogue between the author and some player characters he dreamed up. Game-wise it's pretty simple, which allows the focus to be on the roleplaying and assorted silliness, but it's flexible enough to allow for both pre-scripted scenarios and completely randomly generated adventures.
