i know what i know from sensory experiences and rational thinking~~
(those two basically covers everything.. from physical and emotional encounter with people to reading books and learning from multimedia sources...)

EDIT:

Everything that is knowledge is gained through experience and personal thesis. If you just read it, it's hearsay. If you believ it, then it's faith. Personally I have no way of knowing if the atom truly exists, and if I can not even grab the concept and understand it, then I am putting belief in other people's intelligence as well as the theory itself. Most things we learn are really the concept of believing in what other people have done and think. I have read a lot of history, but my belief in it stems from other people's research, not own experience. What is defined as knowledge is usually other people's propaganda. It works because we believe that if some expert says something incorrect other experts will challenge it AND, and here is the problem, we will actually hear about it, and that it will be stricken "from the record". In most cases, like statistics, we will ususally only hear it once, even if it is rebuked, it will be done so in academic circles, and it may not reach the press, or we may not hear the objections, because in the first case it was a sensational fact, in the other case it was boring and undramatic. Which is why people have a massive amount of strange statistics to draw from. Real year-long studies done by objective researchers are usually more boring than sudden increases in something and the like.

then i guess you learn mostly through rational thinking... ^__^

How do you know what you know ? Where do you gain your knowledge ?
Do you gain your knowledge from school , your parents , your friends or the streets ?
Do you gain knowledge through sensory experiences or rational thinking ?

Have you asked yourself these questions ?

I haven`t but my English teacher did . I was curious . He said this question came from our Religion textbook and when I found it , all I saw were the seven smarts . The seven smarts are verbal , visual , physical , musical , logical , self and people . A person who is people smart knows how to make one feel comfortable or uncomfortable . How does that person know how to make others feel comfortable ?

So , in your opinion , how do you know what you know ?

Firstly, I'm entertained by your question.
As a student, I gain at lot of knowledge via text books and additional books.
Rarely my teachers make me gaining knowledge. When I read book, I get knowledge.
But to get other knowledge ( out of school subjects ) , I do research from the internet and I read.
I actually rely on theory more than hands-on.
Talking about seven smarts,
I'm very smart when I learn by visual and intrapersonal skills.
When you show me a video of law physic, I can remember it well.
When you give me a book then I need to read it quietly and talking to myself, then I can do it.
I am bad doing interpersonal skills. It's talking to people, discussing, I think it doesn't make me okay.
To be more knowledgeable, I use imagination more.
Imagination really helps me.

Couch: even with rational thinking you may come to the wrong conclusion, not to mention if you only think you're thinking rationally. Ideals, for instance, will always get in the way of valid reasoning. I have strong ideals, and many of them, but I try not to let them get in the way when I'm trying to draw a conclusion. Rational thinking can lead to many different conclusions, all valid, they may even all be wrong. Rational thinking will not prevent you from drawing an invalid conclusion. It may even direct you there. I sure like to believe I learn through it, ut it has been proven to lead to wrong perceptions and conclusions. I am not supporting religion here but it is known that a too strong belief in rational thinking is the curse of atheism. Just think of all the theories that lie around, can not be proven, yet are never dismissed, even taught as facts. The belief that we through rational thinking can create a better world has led to disaster before. People thought WW1 & 2 couldn't happen because it wouldn't make sense. After that people thought it was too prone to happen, leading to an overwhelming fear for a nuclear war.

I know what I know from a combination of books, internet, friends, and news and then interpret them with rational thought and possibly research. After interpreting them I consider what is actually believable or what is garbage and what deserves more thought. Sensory experiences tend to lie quite often, and make people believe what isn't true.

Information Obsession

there is a certain obsession our generation has which makes us want to drain every piece of information we can get. That has made us able to distinguish, categorize and collect information from anything, from the stupidest to the most useful. The only problem yet is that we cannot say good from bad information. We are the google generation!

You don't know that you know what you know. But pretending that you know what you know work for you, so you just convince yourself that you know what you know, but really you don't know, be it right or not.
