Synopsis

Asta and Yuno were abandoned together at the same church, and have been inseparable since. As children, they promised that they would compete against each other to see who would become the next Wizard King. However, as they grew up, some differences between them became plain. Yuno was a genius with magic, with amazing power and control, while Asta could not use magic at all, and tried to make up for his lack by training physically. When they received their grimoires at age 15, Yuno got a spectacular book with a four-leaf-clover (most people receive a three-leaf-clover), while Asta received nothing at all. However, when Yuno was threatened, the truth about Asta's power was revealed—he received a five-leaf-clover grimoire, a "black clover" book of anti-magic. Now the two friends are heading out in the world, both seeking the same goal!

Yuno looks like he has no emotions while Asta reminds me of Naruto mixed with Soul from Soul eater. I wish Viz could translate the first chapter instead jumping more ahead.

??? They did start with the first chapter. They did the first 3 as a jump start that's how they chose it. They have done what you described with other series though (My Hero Academia and Food Wars most recently)

The first three chapters were very naruto influenced. I haven't read after that, does anyone know if it's making strides to be its own story yet?

I have only read the first two chapters but it felt extremely cliche to me. It felt like it was seriously trying to be the most generic shonen ever.

I cannot believe they picked Generic Shonen Action Manga #1242... or Black Clover as it was otherwise called for the English Jump. Kagamagani and UBS were infinitely better. I know they didn't look at my survey when they made that selection

Chapter 29

Looks like Yuno is going in against the hag mage and doing damage! We got some good art and action in this chapter, plus some development with Yuno, which is good. I wonder why the invaders want to kill that "Certain Someone" and did the hag mage lose? I am looking forward to the next chapter!

Chapters 30 & 31

Ch. 30 - This was a continuation of Yuno vs the Witch character, but after getting knocked back, Yuno encounters sheep-girl that is eating the food the chef made for her. With some confusion, the sheep-girl attacks the witch thinking she wants the food and blasts her out, thus defeating her. After that we cut to Asta fighting the zombie character, but he is saved by the fire mage, leaving the battle to him.

Ch. 31 - This was mostly a battle chapter with a few dialogue for inspiration. Fire mage and zombie mage face off and it seems the fire mage has the upper hand. I wonder who will win? Looking forward to the next chapter!

Chapter 32

Things are definitely getting crazy in this chapter. We get a little moment with the zombie magic user and it seems Leon got teleported away only to recognize someone familiar. Hmm, seems interesting. Later, he comes back only to be nearly dead! I wonder if he is alive and who was the person Leon saw? I am looking forward to the next chapter!

It's by the books shonen but I have to say it does have great pacing so far that keeps me interested in reading it.

Reminds me of Psyren in that regard in that while it doesn't ignore the side characters by any means it keeps things more focused around the main character and doesn't stray too far from them.

Both Kagamigami and UBS were cancelled! They were lacking popularity. Black Clover beat both, and manages to keep its serialization
