There's gay couples in non-yaoi/yuri manga though. I mean, they aren't usually male, but still.

We better get a deeper back story to Asta's 5 leaf clover grimoire and of course the origin of the anti-magic demon sword

I'm pretty sure we will, since the witch queen already alluded to it.

I think there is someone manipulating Lichte and the Eye of Midnight Sun from behind the scenes

I definitely would not be surprised if that was true.

What if Juno becomes power-hungry and seeks the Eye of Midnight Sun to achieve that goal similar to what Sasuke from Naruto did?

It already has enough similarities to Naruto lol. Nah but honestly, I'd be kind of pissed if that happened. I was pretty mad about that in the original Naruto, so I don't want to see it happen again haha.

Black Clover is a combination of Naruto and Fairy Tail so there are many similarities and tropes in the series

Yeah, honestly the feel of it seems more like Fairy Tail to me, and the story elements have a lot of similarities to Naruto. Unlike a lot of other people though, I don't really mind at all. I like shonen (not surprising considering my age), and Black Clover has all the shonen elements I know and love just in a new world with new characters and fights.

One Piece is the greatest shonen series though

A little bit behind, but I just picked up volume 6 of Black Clover and it was kind of a disappointment. I know that it's a fighting manga but it takes a lot of talent for an author to do an entire tankobon of almost completely uninterrupted fighting and Tabata does not have that. The biggest issue is how quickly one fight ends and gives way to another. First we get the fight against Sally, then the fight against Licht and Volta, then we get the fight against the three other guys. It's all just so unfocused and aside from Sally, who we had already spent some time with last volume, I never felt like I got to know or appreciate any of the other antagonists.

Thankfully the art is still firmly above average but I felt it started to suffer a bit in this volume. There are long stretches of panels with little to no backgrounds and the art in general sometimes seems to be getting less detailed (though this is also a bit of a positive because panels no longer feel overly crowded)

The best thing I can say about volume 6 is that any worries I had about the story focusing on Asta at the expense of the other characters were thrown right out the fucking window. Getting to see Yami fight was an absolute treat and while I was disappointed that the choreography largely consisted of him and his opponent standing in place and trading blows from afar, the beautiful ways in which his shadow sword magic and Licht's Light Whip spell were rendered helps alleviate some of it. But the real star of the show is Gauche, who in my opinion was this volume's MVP. Not only was he instrumental in beating Sally, but he (mostly) singlehandedly beat Licht in one fell swoop. He also has the best character showcase of the volume and frankly an arc of a character with support based skills who only fights solo because of his singlemindedness learning not to be such a dick and be a team player is such a novel idea that I'm surprised this is the first I see of it. Oh, and Asta still gets some sweet action moments too, I especially like the part where he fights with the power of breakdancing like Sonoc the Hedgehog.

The biggest issue with this series remains its lack of an identity. Visually it stands out, with an artstyle that is still recognizable as a Shonen Jump style, but with a twist of heavy pencilling that gives it a unique "old timey" quality. However, the writing often feels very uninspired. The plot of a mysterious organisation trying to take over the kingdom is overdone and there haven't really been any interesting twists or deviations from it so far. It doesn't help that Tabata doesn't seem to want to build up his characters that much anymore. This volume gives us 6 characters who we haven't seen before now just showing up for a big fight which makes the whole affair feel detached and inorganic. It doesn't help that their personnalities are falling more and more into the realm of cliches. I rolled my eyes so hard at the one guy whos only personnality trait seems to be saying "what a pain" about everything. I miss the simple, but sympathetic backstories that previous characters were given. It helps a ton to get to know a character before they enter combat and I don't really feel like I'm getting that with this series much these days.

TL;DR I had mixed opinions overall. Volume 7 is already out so I'll probly get that depending on what I hear about it. I just hope it's an improvement on this one.
