Post Reply China cracks down on "explicit" anime

Hm. They do have a good point though. I'm sure they want to keep the sites PG-13 appropriate and for people for pretty much all ages to browse and watch anime.

This is the typical rhetoric that flies out of China. Government tells you everything that is good for you because of social order, feel goods, something something something.

It's funny, because a lot of gritty stuff comes out of China too.

It's sad, China was once a place of free thought and innovation in the old world, ever since communism it's been on government lockdown.

Well, that's just one reason I'm thankful to live in America. It's not perfect, but we take our freedoms for granted. 'Murica.

I think people should be able to watch these kinds of things as long as it doesn't promote violence or exploit children, etc. I believe even most pornography is banned especially on the internet in China. How would most of the West survive without it?

China does not value free speech, and fewer in the west value free speech every minute. If you can't stand something that is offensive, you can't stand free speech. Any idiot can say they believe in the things they already like, free speech is about things you don't like. On the other hand, just because I think they are wrong is no reason for me to want to run China. They can do what they want in their own country. Even pollute the air until people choke in the cities. They have to let me do what I want in mine. Even watch High School of the Dead.

If i had to guess, id say China is still holding a grudge over ww2, and theres still the issue of the Senkaku Islands, so censoring Japanese anime is more like a little middle finger to Japan. Who knows...

thats funny, cus if i remember right, japans current censorship laws were put in place by the american ooupation.

First off, lets not blame the whole of China. Im sure there are tons of people over there who love anime just as much as us.

The Chinese government however, are just as annoying as many other governments that think they have the right to tell people what they can and cant do instead of doing what they were paid to do.

High school of the Dead accusations of being borderline pornographic, lol?
I would say first its more bloody violence then anything else, yes a bit fanservice but nothing shows that cind of nudy or sexual stuff that I can remember.
Do like the others do make blood green or do something else wierd that they will define as good enough

Who cares what the dictatorship of China says, they are just jealous they couldn't come up with the anime.

I don't reside in China so the effect on me will probably be about the same as the Great Wall has on my locale.

I read about this in NEO magazine. Not that surprising really. China has censorship to the extreme. They've already banned anything involving time travel, so no Doctor Who for them
