I frequent fanfiction quite a bit as I enjoy reading stories on anime/manga that have long since ended. It's a nice kind of nostalgia for me each time.

As the others have said though many are poorly written or authors have little to no grasp of proper writing skills. I can't bring myself to read them if they fall under the above mentioned issues. I'm too OCD/perfectionist to deal with it. It's kind of sad because there are MANY good ideas and plots authors have come up with on there but they ruin it with beginner mistakes.

There are good fanfics, but most are bad. There are some that are so bad there entertaining just to read how sloppy they get. As for the fanfics I like to read the most, I've been reading "Final Fantasy VII" fanfics for years. One field of FFVII fanfics I happen to like tends to be Aeriseph, stories that have Aerith and Sephiroth as a couple. I know that sounds a little creepy, but I like the idea of good and evil falling in love. There's already a lot of Clarith (CloudxAerith pairings), Cloti (CloudxTifa pairings), and Zarith (ZackxAerith parings) stories in fan fiction, so why not try a fringe couple like that. I also read a couple of good VinTi (VincentxTifa pairings) too. After FFVII, I like to read "Doctor Who" and "X-Files" fanfics, possibly because those shows have been a part of my life for years.

For me it's more or less dependent on the fandom who majority writes the fanfiction. Certain-- yes... *ahem* -- certain fandoms tend to have fans with poorer writing, spelling, and grammar, while others are noted for being more intelligible.

Some bad fanfiction falls into So Bad It's Good Territory though, hence the fact that My Immoral made me laugh my ass off.

it's a good place to go and read one's favorite people starring together in fiction stories. since I don't get to see my favorite characters starring as a pairing in dramas, fan fiction is the best place. Also, there's so many imaginative and creative stories out there to read.

I do really enjoy fanfiction, especially black butler fanfiction. It's a great way of getting to read about your favourite pairing even if they are a not canon.

No, I really stick to my ships and their umm...positions in bed and while I respect everyone and their ships, people be crazy , I read some great stories but in the end people go so OC without warning and its just nuts. I was really into it around 14 -16 but I'd had my heart crushed too many times and its too hard sorting through all the crazy to find something that , I don't know ...Conforms with how you see things?.

I enjoy reading fanfic, but it's really hard to find quality writing, especially for the really small fandoms. So I said it depends, because a good story can be difficult to find, and because you need to tread carefully or you could be mentally scarred~

I know this won't be a popular opinion around here but No. It seems like a waste of creativity to borrow other peoples' characters and worlds. Originality is important to me. Write your own stories, people.

I do love fan fiction, because it helps the author spill out all their creative juices. bad grammar and things like that then to ruin a good fan fic though. also I like reading fan fics about Asian celebrities and what not, but sometimes the author isn't a native English speaker. this for me can lead to their stories being really confusing, but I try my best to keep up. overall I'm really easy please since I am a super avid reader, and ill read just about anything haha.

Fanfiction is great when there's an anime or game that has a great universe with lots of potential, but the story is missing something important. Or when a show is too short and doesn't have enough time to get into certain characters, etc. For example, the Pokemon anime has a fantastic universe with tons of potential for straight up interesting plot, character development, romance, and darker themes. But the anime does none of these things, meaning you have to turn to fanfiction to get it.

If a show or game had everything you could want to see, with no incomplete characters or missing storylines, then I wouldn't feel the urge to read fanfiction of it. But most shows can't cover everything for one reason or another, so there's almost always fanfiction potential. Sure it might take up to 20 minutes to find the right one to read, but it's usually worth it. Fanfiction focuses on a specific interest within a specific show. It's like your own universe within a universe, and when you find a really good one, it's extremely immersive.

Then there's the fanfics that piss me off because they do one of the following:
-Make characters very bland and not act like themselves.
-Only care about very linear and predictable plot progression
-Make the characters unrealistically frisky out of nowhere as an excuse for the author to vent their sexual frustrations.
-Include lots of filler that is irrelevant to the plot/characters and isn't very interesting for the sole purpose of making the story longer.

Overall, if you're skilled at finding the good stories, you will have a lot more great times than wasted time reading fanfiction. It's a fun way to get better at reading & writing.
