In case you are new to this, there has been a Act that allowed the government to go against the First Amendment rights, like freedom of speech. I also forgot to mention that it goes against the Fourth Amendment. Any opinions?

*i did not do this*

Personally....... i believe none of the acts should be bipassed, no matter who that person/group may be. Because these acts/laws are the closest thing we have to equalizing society....

I highly dislike the Patriot Act. It's way too unconstitutional. It allows the goverment to monitor your activities without a warrent
The worst part is Title V which gives the security agencies the authority to demand records and data of people without any oversight.

haha i did a report on this last semester for sociology. the patriot act is so unconstitutional, it violates not only the 1st and 4th Amendments, but also the
6th (Right to a speedy public trial by an impartial jury, right to be informed of the facts of the accusation, right to confront witnesses and have the assistance of counsel),
8th (No excessive bail or cruel and unusual punishment shall be imposed), and
14th Amendments (All persons within the United States are entitled to due process and the equal protection of the laws)

A combination of fear, ignorance and carelessness have diluted the constitution into how it is applied today. I personally think the government has way to much power, and has been infringing on our rights in a much broader way. Things are meant to be changed and improved upon, but many of the legislations and acts are based on private agendas of politicians. What if, instead of taking away our rights and civil liberties to "protect" us, we didn't upset these groups which specifically target us as opposed to other nations which don't interfere with their affairs.

I haven't really looked into those Amendments, but good point of view.

I hate the stupid patriot act. It's making things harder than they have to be and screwing up the system even more than it already is. Although, in some ways u could say that we don't hv those rights to begin with. I mean, we want those rights for ourselves, but not for other ppl. I hv a quote that could go well w/ this:

"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can't just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the 'land of the free.'"
