Is It Me, Or Is It Today's Anime Industry?
Posted 5/19/15
I've always managed to find three or four that I like every year.

And yes, they're pimping out anime shows one after another, there are like 50 each season, back in the days, there were fewer shows each season. Let's face it, You're not going to like all 50 shows each season.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Anime has definitely gotten better, I can now watch it without laughing at goldfish eyes.

It's gotten worse, no doubt.
I'd probably say around 2010 when it started getting real shitty.

I personally have felt like new anime is suffering in quality these days. Don't get me wrong; there are a few I find decent. Sometimes I just feel like an old bitty, yelling at the kids to get off her lawn. Still, I just don't feel like anime is the same as it used to be. I feel like it's become overly cliche and often times just plain half-assed. Perhaps because I've seen so much of it and am growing tired of it, or perhaps anime these days might just be pumped out to please and be forgotten soon after.

This I wonder about often, and don't really know one way or the other.

What do you think? Do you think anime has gotten worse in some ways over the years? Has it gotten better? Has it stayed the same?

I think there are good and bad anime creators, there are plenty of good new anime.

Interesting that you say the anime industry is overly cliche. I feel the same way about these threads.

OOOOOOOHHH OH OH OH OHHHHHHHHHHHH GET OUT OF THE WAY YOU'VE JUST BEEN FLAMED OP

And on a side note I really like anime these days, for one the art and animation these days is normally pretty good and people making the anime are also now forced to come up with better, even more interesting anime as a result of its popularity over time.

You are absolutely right Rutsuki. I've payed the dearest close attention to today's anime. Most anime now seem to have a high amount of ecchi. Cannot fathom how hard it is to find a romance anime without ecchi or comedic nonsense.

I believe Charles Dickins said it best in a tale of two cites ,"It was the best of times it was the worst of time" that time is all the time if you think about it. Ahh... the paradoxical nature of this world.

Sometimes I look at it and I think it's me, and other times it's the industry. There's been all these advancements in animation that viewer's standards have risen.

Lately I've found myself annoyed with so much cutesy art for pretty cool storylines. It makes me feel like I think the industry needs to step up its game.

So I think that's kinda what it is, is everyone just gets higher expectations the more anime they watch.

Oninions opinions, well heres mine. Yesterday's anime was perfectly fine. Today we have annoying shit like one piece I could care less for.

v The reason being anime has become hardly recognizable and more cartoonish. I prefer the darker atmosphere to the lighter stuff. An exception to this would be sailor moon. CR used to have much of what funi currently offers before it went legal, it was better then.

Anime of the 80s i think was more original to most people because there was less of it in the U.S and was more fresh for most people.

Look at television and movie of today, most horror movies fall into the blood and gore violence or the jump scare, most tv tends to fall under the badly written super hero or the "reality" show, everything is getting dumbed down.

Now of course the 80s boom is getting a revival but in different ways, clothing style, hair styles, movie remakes, toy remakes, cartoons to movies ect ect. it's all about making the buck in the end and if they can cut corners to save a buck and make a profit at the same time then of course they're going to do it.

Lately I find myself reminded of the movie idiocracy, with people these days.

Sturgeons law. 90% of everything is crap. Back in the day 90% of all anime was crap just like it is now its just that we only remember the good stuff like Bebop, Eva, and Trigun.

That being said I do think fewer risks are being made. There is little likelihood of something like Gankustuou coming out today except from Shaft.

Someone once told me that there was no bad anime so long as one person liked it. Its stuck with me ever since.
