that just means that you personally don't understand the endings, because you could be a saint that finds no fault with any thing but say there was bad ending. Think of it like this MC goes through hell to save the love of his life, they start living happily together than the last page is her getting hit by a random truck blood everywhere MC is crying and screaming and that's the end. No clarification, no reason that there was a semi truck on a one way street and it's going the wrong way and she's just.... dead now tell me is that a good ending or a bad one?

That was a good ending, although I enjoyed there relationship, I only watched the show because of the turmoil the MC went through to save the love of his life, and although the random truck was a strange co-incidence and only had a 1 in a million chance of hitting her, it doesn't mean it was a stupid ending. It conveys how all the efforts of the MC can easily be dashed, unexpected things happen all the time and perhaps they were destined not to be together, and he fought destiny to such an extent that fate ended up ripping them apart. Truly an amazing heartfelt emotional story, which left a powerful ending with a punch to the face.

10/10 BRAVO!

Ah but she has the power of foresight, she should have known that it was going to happen but for no explainable reason did she see it coming. And the MC has some shounen like instinct ability to sense when danger was approaching but he didn't feel the truck coming. Again for no explainable reason, she just dies. The truck that hit them also is never seen again, as if it never existed in the first place. Also i agree it doesn't mean i needs to be stupid ending, it also doesn't need to be all roses. For instance instead of killing her off at the last second why doesn't she die when he is rescuing her at this point that ending isn't just bad it's a troll.

No Manga Artist intentionally tries to troll his viewers. Trust me, I've read Tite Kubo's works, he's the king of manga trolls, but I love his plots. The vanishing truck, the mysteries surrounding it, and their failing abilities all add to my interpretation of it being 'DESTINY'

Endings are the aftertaste that you are left with when the final credits roll so I would regard them as important. However, if the middle is bad, especially if it’s a long series then it gets dropped.

If I suddenly had a time machine, and was able to go back in time, I would go back to 1980, and tell every person entering the movie theaters for The Empire Strikes Back what the twist at the end is.

Just because I now have a time machine I have this power.

Hate to tell you this but the twist ending was leaked about a month before it was in theaters. I remember reading the article on it don't remember th publication though either Newsweek or one of the other new magazines. Not that it was a let down and changed anything.

A good ending is the nice bow on the package ties up all the strings and gives you a good ending. What you will see a lot is the cliff end where there are still some loose ends this happens when the team wants to continue the story but can't beucase the series doesn't get renewed.

Well.. a shit ending is like someone making a beautiful cake.. but then finishing it by topping it off with little bits of deer poop.

Everything else can be wonderful about that cake...but those finishing touches can spoil everything good about it.

So let's say you have a series with 100 episodes, then if the last episode is bad then that euqals to 1% of the anime being bad and that shouldn't taint your overall opinion of the series. A anime's introduction episodes and main plot lines are far more important then a ending since chances are, if you didn't like something then you won't keep watching it no matter if the ending is good or bad.

Ending is important. Makes or breaks a movie or anything else.

If you watched The Children of Men that movie was pretty good but the ending was so shitty I flung the movie across the room.

The ending is very important for me because its probably the most memorable thing about the anime that I will probably remember because it is the culmination of all the events that have happened so far. Additionally, because I only watch the anime I want it to have a good wrap-up so I'm content when it ends; i hate cliff hanger endings that allude to LN, Manga or some other medium.

I think of a good anime ending as a luxury, but not a necessity and not a deal breaker. I'm one of those hippies who values the journey more than the destination.

It doesn't bother me if a show has an ambiguous ending or if the animation shop tries to ham-fist an original ending of their own which appears to be written by a 4-year old on cheap psychopharmacological meds. If I enjoyed the show, I could give a rat how they do or don't tie it up at the end.

So no, the ending isn't paramount to my rating of the show in totality.

With anime, a "satisfying" ending is icing on the cake. It's too hard to really say "good" or "bad" so satisfying is more useful I think.

Almost no anime I remember "ended" really, they just end a season. There is some attempt to wrap up the majority of loose ends, but there's always the door open for a continuation at some later date (even when there never really is a continuation the possibility is there). I don't consider the series to "end" as much as it has a final episode for that season.

Invariably the final episode also tends to be rushed and slightly incoherent because of ... reasons. So I don't count on final episodes being all that spectacular any more. If it is, great surprise.

I do love a good, well rounded ending to my anime but I tend to prefer a filled out storyline over ending. That goes for non-anime as well really. It've watched stuff with wonderful endings but the actual main plot was meeeeeh. Or wooden characters.
