I've watched alot of great anime, Steins;Gate, Baccano, Pandora Hearts, Inuyasha, ext. I watch about every genera of anime, but I cant stand sports anime and anything Ecchi/Hentai. I really like in depth story's that can still make me laugh at times, and I also enjoy anime like Durarara that are very character based. I'm also a big fan of anime's like Higurashi and Umineko.

Help please!

Have you watched Gintama? It's centered on being as comedy but deep down in that bunker of comedy is a good plot.
Also 3rd season this spring :D
If not gintama try Log Horizon, Problem children are coming from another world aren't they?, Shugo Chara, or Your Lie in April.

My Recommendations:

The World God Only Knows. Absolutely amazing. This is on my Top 5 list of Anime.

Kuroko's Basketball (I don't like sports anime either. This is the only exception I have)

Clannad is a MUST see for any Anime watcher.

Parasyte

World Trigger

Witch Craft Works

SHINGEKI NO... oh wait. You've probably seen it and I'll get a lot of hate for mentioning it. Not worth it.

Oh, and maybe Sword Art Online Episode 1 (don't bother with the rest of the series)

I'm not particular to any one genre (sales associates tell my mom I have a very unique and all over the place list when it comes to anime-related gifts), but Nagi no Asukara was absolutely gorgeous visually and the story was very well done. It may or may not be your cup of tea, but I'll say it's definitely worth watching!

Eureka Seven: The character development here is absurdly good
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood: top-notch world-building
Clanand/After Story: Starts off a solid, non-ecchi school-aged rom-com; turns into the most emotional family drama you'll ever see.
-- If you like it, go watch Kanon (2006)
Usagi Drop (Bunny Drop): Feel-good slice of life.
Trigun: An oldie-but-a-goody action/steam punk Western
Monster: The most clever and intricate mystery/thriller you'll ever see
