Some people are complicated like that.

it's just like.. how can someone actively support a standpoint that is against them and human rights in general? just like when i see poc/working class individuals support conservative ideals.. it's mind-boggling

How I feel about this and most of these political threads.

I'm a conservative. I know gay conservatives/Republicans. I know feminists who are pro-life. Being homosexual does not preclude you from believing in limited government and supporting candidates who believe the same thing. I mean - when Maryland tried to legalize same-sex marriage, a gay man stood up in front of the state legislature and spoke out against it stating that marriage was the realm of the church and that gay couples should create a different, parallel institution for what they want.

Believing in women's rights doesn't mean you are unable to believe the unborn child is a living person which has a rights to live which need to be protected. Especially with the pro-life issue, that's one which crosses party, ethnic, and ideological lines. I've known gay atheist pro-lifers; feminist pro-lifers; pagan pro-lifers; etc.

Long Story Short: One aspect of one's personality does not need to define every aspect of their life.

While laws can be built on they try to not make them contradict each other. States have scads of attorneys that make sure of this, and they are very anal about it. They have to be it is their job to understand the laws of a given state or country, so they get picky when folks start making rules that go against other rules rather than along with them.

Now what normally happens when two laws oppose each other the most recent one is the one that stands. The reason for this is it is the most current input from the governing body. This is to limit the impact of old and out of date law that should be stripped from the legal code. The attorneys also go through the code to find these out of date laws to either have them removed or modified.

Nothing more dangerous than a room full of lawyers working on legal code. Like plutonium only it talks and thinks, most of the time they get it right when rewriting or coming up with new laws for dealing with problems other times the botch it which means they get to start over from scratch to figure out a better solution to the problem. This can be costly and really harmful depending on the problem they are trying to fix.

LoL!

Ah, thank goodness! Someone 20 years my senior that has a sense of humor AND sounds reasonable!

I started to despair. :)

This ^ I disagree with allot of my liberal friends on nuclear power it doesn't mean I don't Identify as a liberal, nor does Identifying as a liberal preclude me from taking positions contrary to the generally accepted liberal position.

One word labels are terrible descriptors of who you are and what you believe.

I'm still left with: Why not? political views sex orientation, gender, age the are all just single facets of a complex human.
