In the scenario you outlined, a magical tree in the backyard- yes I think so. But I do hesitate some because it sounds too easy and I am unsure why that would be illegal. Maybe it is illegal because it has not been tested and could result in terrible side effects that might cause the loved one even more pain before dying or the disease to mutate into something contagious?

With my loved one on the line I would probably be willing to try anything, unless I had some evidence that there would be terrible consequences from eating this magic fruit.

Unjust laws are meant to be broken.

Of coarse, I would kill people to protect a loved one. So breaking a law would be a piece of cake.

Why would it be illegal? I mean, after all, scientists test all kinds of currently illegal to possess things in attempts to treat cancer. Doctors put years of their lives and tons of money into being able to help people. You'd think they'd lobby to make sure those cures were available.

And please remember, there's no "cure" for cancer. They kill cancer, mostly by poisoning the patient. Cancer cells metabolize everything faster (thus why PT scans work, the radioactive sugars are absorbed by the cancer cells first. It's why they have you close your eyes and relax as much as possible while your body absorbs them), so they eat poison faster as well. My treatment was basically monitored heavy metal poisoning, when you get down to it, but one of my chemo buddies was getting a form of arsenic. Different sets of drugs are used to kill off different cancers, but they're pretty much all poisons.

I know I keep hearing about things like marijuana "cures", natural diet "cures", and so on.. but when you dig into them, they tend to be full of hot air, with no actual research to back the claims up.

What you said is pretty much what I would say, but better (minus the having cancer part). Though I will say that a healthy diet with less animal products than what most people eat these days would seriously reduce your chance of cancer at least. Same goes for not smoking and all the obvious things to avoid.

Though on the off chance there was some magic instant fix that was illegal, I wouldn't go for it. Chances are it's locked away in some high security place and I'm no master thief.

Well, no. If it's illegal it's illegal for a reason. And if the cure for CANCER is illegal then you know there's got to be a VERY good reason for it.

If the law stopped making sense, people would end up protesting and rioting. So yeah, I would, unless it was because the cure had another terrible side-effect or something, like anyone who used it became a senseless killer, or to make the cure you needed a fresh corpse.

But if there was no reason for it being illegal, I would break the law to save anyone, nevermind a loved one.

I just thought of this but what if you had to kill a loved one to get the cure for another loved one.... Is it worth?

Legality and morality are often two different things.
