Sooo... Goku's new form for the Rebirth of Frieza movie was just released to day... and that means that Vegeta probably will not get to defeat arguably his greatest nemesis (aside from goku). This pisses me off because I and several other people thought it would be amazing if Goku would be able to step back and let Vegeta finally beat a main villain for once.

I heard that while the manga was still ongoing people complained about Goku doing everything and beating everyone except Cell. Before i was like eh thats whatever, his biggest take downs were Buu and Frieza and he didn't even kill Frieza and it took a spirit bomb to kill Buu. but now I'm like Goku needs to chill, what is the point of having other characters if he does everything?

Reasons why Vegeta should beat Frieza instead of Goku

1. Frieza kept him as a pet for years
2. Destroyed his whole planet & race
3. Killed Vegeta's father
4. Killed Vegeta
5. Is probably going to attack Vegeta's son Trunks in the movie since future Trunks killed him
6. Vegeta hasn't beaten anyone important who didn't just get a power up later to surpass him

Keep in mind: the movie isn't out yet, i don't know what will happen, but this is the way things are shaping up and i wanted to voice my concern.

What do you guys think?

I agree with you generally, but it's just a mainstay of the genre. The big bads in shounen will almost always be taken down by the main protagonist. Generally speaking, the other characters are there to give the protagonist a reason to fight: it would be cheesy to have him (because it's virtually always a guy) personally affected by every plot arc. Including secondary characters does two major things. FIrst, it allows for interaction, which in turn allows for a hell of a lot more comedic moments in between the action. Second, each of these characters comes with their own personal issues that the main character can involve himself in, thereby demonstrating both his prowess and his compassion at the same time. The downside is, of course, people will inevitably become attached to these secondary characters, often more so than the protagonist (especially older audiences), and those people will be disappointed when their favorite characters end up having to step aside to let the protagonist solve their problems for them.

Personally, this is the main reason that I stay away from shounen nowadays. I'm the type that favors ensemble casts over protagonists when it comes to that type of story. Having a single main character is nice for a more introspective, character-based plot, but when it's about the action, shounen just can't keep me guessing like I want it to, precisely because it's so focused on the protagonist.

Character development has always been an issue with DBZ. It's essentially train, fight, train some more when you lose, fight and win. Granted it's still very entertaining, but we have to accept it for what it is.

And it's ironic that the person with the most dynamic changes would obviously play second fiddle to static, predictable Goku. Vegeta was once evil, then became kind of a neutral evil on Namek (he DID slaughter a whole village of Namekians), then upgraded to an anti-hero after he was resurrected, and ultimately became a full fledged good guy by sacrificing himself to kill Majin Buu. That is quite a résumé sheet for character development in DBZ.

Yep. If you seen dragon ball z all that happens to vegeta is that he gets beaten up by all people. Vegeta was suppose to die, and be forgot, since he became so popular Akira had no choice but to bring him back.

Who knows. Akira has trouble remembering half the things he did in Dragon Ball.

Yea, Vegeta is one of the most developed characters of the DBZ Universe, mostly because he is constantly struggling to keep up. I felt like giving Vegeta a power boost and letting him beat Frieza would do him some justice. Like giving him some reward for all his hard work... i.e getting his ass handed to him and being used as a punching bag for main villains. Not to mention a power up could put him at least on near equal footing with Goku possibly setting up a rematch for those two later on. Goku would win because of plot armor but thats still something i'd like to see.

but maybe I'm going too far into it. Maybe we should just stop thinking when we watch dragon ball stuff because akira will just power people up whenever he feels like it and choose a winner...

You know really gets too much hate? Krillin. Strongest full-blooded human in the universe, still get shat on by everyone, both in DBZ and its fandom.

Technically 18 is full-blooded human, just modified. Uub is also full-blooded human. He's just got the soul of a Majin.

Remember Launch? Toriyama completely blanked out on her. Btw if I'm not mistaken, doesn't Vegeta achieve God status as well?

It's like everyone forgot Goku needed to fuse with Vegeta in multiple movies to win. Goku's only real victory was against Frieza, that I can remember right now.

Yeah, this is why they really shouldn't have spoiled some of the twists, because then you get people making assumptions for the worst before we know anything.

Also FYI: Vegeta is one of Toriyamas favorites.
