Don't view these as shows I dislike... I've not finished one episode of Bakemonogatari, but all these other ones are some of my favorite shows ever made. And no show is perfect

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya- Endless Eight... I'm sure they thought this was super cool in theory, and on paper it's not bad. But they fucked up the execution bad. It's 8 epsides with minor differences. It's not like the Black Rose Arc of Utena which uses repetition to build a surreal environment, this was just 6 episodes wasted. Watch the first and last if you haven't seen the show, but the middle 6 episodes aren't worth your time

Bakemonogatari- The flashing text was pointless and dosn't add to anything. From what I hear they're not nessasary to read, so I won't read them. But as a whole, they're kinda pointless, what's wrong with just showing them at normal speed?

Revolutionary Girl Utena-
Believe it or not, I actually like it. I see it as an intermission, now I can get snacks and beer without needing to pause... I believe Ikuahara uses his own pretentiousness as a possitive thing... How? well, remember the scene where Sayonji or Touga stood up in the car and Akio said, "That's dangerous", despite Akio doing it all the time. Well, I see that as a form of self-awareness. He is able to satirize himself in a way that improves the show and makes it humerous.

Revolutionary Girl Utena- Miki's voice... If you didn't know this was a reference to some old japanese all female theater, you'd not understand it. He's got a female voice... why? Well... Notice he's the only man who's not a dick, besides that young boy... So... all men are dicks, except for this guy who is a reference to women playing male roles?
That is a fucked up implication
Unless I'm wrong, and his voice has nothing to do with that theater, in that case, it's even more pretentious

Yuri Kuma Arashi- It's attempt at being greater social commentary on lesbianism in Japan is well... very hit and miss. For one, most of what it's said has been said before in Utena... I mean... I get it, you like lesbians, so do I... Utena itself could be rather obnoxious with it's feminism stuff...

I feel bad for bashing this show, because the social commentary is very clever at times, while I feel the execution of it is rather haphazard. There's good symbolsim but it doesn't tie together very well. But... the time I spent analyzing was fun. The show itself was however, not too great. Some fun moments, but overall... this is defintely his weakest work

I still dont know what they were thinking with Endless Eight. After watching Shirobako, I have to guess it was because of budget problems. They used the same animations but drew over them with different clothes. If it wasn't because of budget problems, then the director had to be high as a kite to think this was a good idea.

As for the Monogatari series, they are adapted from a light novel series so the texts are just excerpts from the novel. They are basically just extra details that aren't truly necessary for telling the story but are there if you want to pause and read them. If they had paused to show them at normal speed, the pacing of the episodes would have felt off and of course there would be a lot less time for the actual show. For any other series this might be a good thing as far as budget goes, but theres a lot of dialogue to get through in this case.

Boring and pretentious over entertaining and simple.

Not my logic of course.

endless eight was brilliant, yet poorly executed. they really wanted to show just how much Nagato had to go through. remember, it may have been only a few weeks time span to the characters, but for Nagato, it was several hundred years. she remembers all 15,500 loops that had to be done before Kyon finally found the way to end the repetition. this is what ultimately lead to Nagato's breakdown and caused her to start the events that lead to the Disappearance movie.

however, in reality, making 8 identical episodes, while artistically brilliant, is really really annoying to the viewers, causing a huge fallout. they could have done it several different ways that I doubt would have caused the backlash that Endless Eight DID cause, such as LESS EPISODES... or, instead of very insignificant slight changes such as different clothes, different camera angles, same everything else... they could have depicted some different scenarios that happened throughout the loop. there WERE several weeks' time they spent, and they were all different loops, so I imagine they might have done SOME different things. the most important part of the episodes was the beginning and the ending anyway, making the mid-sections all identical with only slight variances just instigated the rage.

I am sure everyone wants to slap her. But no.
