So one thing about Crunchyroll that irks me is the review sections of all the series, and how almost all of the "most helpful" reviews are simply first impressions. While first impressions do serve some purpose as to whether or not a series could peek your interest, I wish that CR could separate these from the reviews of those who have watched the entirety of the season and then voiced their opinion, especially since I binge watch, and so am a season or two behind those that are currently airing.

My argument for this would be that first impressions only point out how good the show COULD be, or how good the manga/light novel was. As someone who waits for the show to end, I don't care how good it could be at episode 3, I care about whether or not it was worth your time, and if it's worth mine.

What are your opinions on this?

I fully agree with you.

Reviews are tough to go by. Pilots are tough to go by too. A series is tough to go by every time it almost loses you and sucks you back in.

I completely agree with what you are saying here. Reviews of shows shouldn't be made just based on someone's first impressions of the first few episodes of an anime. A recent example of this is the recent Cross Ange that just finished a couple of weeks ago. The first few episodes were a bit hard to watch because of the content in them and what was going on, and some of it just seemed downright silly or fanservicey for no reason, but if you keep watching it turns into a really good mecha anime with some deep themes and an actual good plot. Those that wrote it off after the first few episodes and dropped it were really wrong about the show as a whole and missing out.

I have to say that I'm proud that I've almost never dropped an anime that I started watching, especially just because someone said something negative about it. I like to form my own opinion on things after watching them myself rather than going by what others say about it.

I completely agree, a proper review should be based on an entire season (or series). I have noticed this myself and it is annoying especially when (like yourself), I wait until the full season is out and then binge watch it, unless it's an OVA or a one off episode.

Absolutely, and it's why I actually appreciate critics that separate first impressions and reviews clearly. I think if you are going to do a first impression on a review site you should say it is such before you write anything.

It's actually Vincent Volaju from the Cowboy Bebop movie, but I certainly see the resemblance.

I've read hundreds of posts condemning a series in which the detractor admits that He/She never got past the first 5 minutes.I think you're spot on for wishing to separate the two categories.

Yes.
I think first impressions should be neatly sorted into the garbage.

Reviews are full fledged judges and opinions on the entirety of a show or a season of a show.
First impressions are things said about the first episode of a show or the first few episodes.

First impressions in the review section suck. Almost got turned away from ISUCA because of all the first reviews bashing the show because it wasn't like the manga for the first episode then it turned into the manga in animated form. Definitely should be separated. Another show comes to mind and that's school days. If i was watching it before when it was coming out 1week at a time i would have no idea it would turn out to be.... School Days. I'd think it would be a normal slice of life romance. The first impressions would turn me towards it but the full-fledged reviews warned me otherwise. Thank goodness for that.

Yes please, annoyed by that too. Indeed the full review section should only open once a season of the show is released on CR.

Yeah, for sure. Even if you dun like it from the beginning if you're gonna review it you better watch the whole thing, lol. But then I guess they should make it like steam where you can see how many hours the reviewer has played a game, you can see if the person has watched the whole series or not.~

Counter Question: Should we read all the replies to a forum post before posting our own =o?

I agree. A review from someone who has seen the whole series is far more helpful than someone who has watched the first episode and just given up.
