Is it just me or does it almost always seem like anime openings and closings tend to be pretty epic these days?

Even with some of the less-liked and poorer composed shows and such the themes, opening animation and music seem to be top notch.

Now, I don't watch as much anime as others on here seem to do, but from what I have watched recently the opening themes each time already pique my interest and give me high hopes for various shows almost every time.

Can anyone think of an anime in the past few years where the opening and/or closing themes weren't good? Like they were just downright lame? Or how about shows that were just not that good, but have kick-butt themes?

A good example of great theme to a less popular series I can think of is The Testament of Sister New Devil I know not a lot of people like the series, but #1 I do and #2 the theme just gets me hyped every time I hear or watch it. I also REALLY liked the opening theme to Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero

Pegasus Fantasy
From the original 80's Saint Seiya

I used to get so hyped listening to this as a kid. I would be there trying to trace the pegasus constilation with my hands to use Pegasus Meteor punch

In recent years the most memoriable has been Shingeki No Bahamut which made me want to get into a circle pit.

Do it, it was exceptionally well done. It was the biggest hidden gem of its season.

Had some pretty memorable characters and an overall enjoyable plot, plus an opening that hasn't hyped me up like that since RE: Hamatora.

The best ones that I've heard recently are definitely the ones from Aldnoah Zero, particularly aLIEZ and A/Z (endings from the first half) and &Z (opening from second half).

I also found that opening from Hanasaku Iroha incredibly catchy almost to the point of driving me to insanity, but that might just be me

I totally agree with you on Pegasus Fantasy being one of the best openings tied with Soldier Dream & Hahaha I use to do the same when I was little trying to form with my hands the constellation of Pegasus but I never got it its was so complicated xD

I do have a few Anime openings & closing songs I consider epic but I'll name some

one being the Remake of Soldier Dream sung by Root Five for Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7DGHCMcwpI

closing theme Yakusoku no Ashita e sung also by Root Five for Saint Seiya Soul of Gold

second opening would be Megami No Senshi ~Pegasus Forever for Saint Seiya the Hades Chapter: Elysion

second closing Kami no en -del regno- for Saint Seiya the Hades Chapter: Elysion

Senkou Strings sung by Cynthia for Saint Seiya Omega opening 4

Every single one of the JoJo's Bizarre adventure openings go pretty hard and the first one got this kind of retro seinen feel to it imo and they production value in each one is pretty sick like it took me a while to get really into JoJo but I fell hard for the openings really fast

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4jo_3HrXdU

And Bleach spent like 70% of it's animation budget on openings and I never really liked the anime but I do think it has some really neat and intense openings

(super hard finding some of these openings with good quality)
