i dont mean you should have different interest or the other person
as for one i have nothing but gaming friends since i was a gamer first
before i came into anime when i did make a couple friends to talk about
anime it felt more awkward for me to talk about it since they dont know much
about like im into it im gonna have to try these conventions i'll try anime-expo since
thats the nearest one for me

Edit: any new people i meet with different hobbies than mine i try to learn more about it
so conversations arnt as awkward.

the friends i make about anime usually are mecha people. also im reading every comment
thanks for taking the time to respond to this taking it like feedback

Anime isn't my main interest and none of my friends irl know anything about anime nor do I openly discuss that I watch anime so it's not really concerning for me lmao

All my friends don't care about anime or anything Japan-related.

Actually, I don't have nothing in common with my best friends (I have 2, 1 guy and 1 girl) and yet we get along very well

I have known people who like anime but for some reason we never became friends, I guess I can be ok only with the opposite.

I personally am not too open about liking anime to people. Like, based on looks I probably look more like a preppy frat boy then a stereotypical otaku or something like that.

I also find it difficult to be friends with a lot the people I've met who like anime. The problems with this are either they only talk about anime, which is fine and all, but if I wanna talk about other types of shows, like sticoms, movies, or books they are generally clueless. The other issue is when they have some elitist issue going with their anime. They'll be like "x is the best show ever, y (the show I like) sucks because it isn't x. It never will be." And those people irritate me to no end. If I don't like a show, I don't necessarily think it's bad. It just means I don't like it.

But with all that being said, I have a bunch of friends I've met recently through anime, and they are all great people. So I don't think "anime friends IRL" are a bad thing, but it can be hit or miss for me.

Though I have converted some of my non-anime liking friends into loving it. For example, my best friend and I didn't used to watch anime in high school, then I was just like, I wanna try it. So I did, then I made him do it too. After a week or so of peer pressure to watch anime he finally did, and now goes to Animazement in Raleigh with me every year!

I have a lot of friends who are into anime, either fully fledged and in depth, or just seen a couple.
I was actually the president of my anime club of my high school and still kind of involved in it even though its been about a year since i left.

But the best place i met friends was at conventions. I even met my current girlfriend at my first convention I had so much fun with people I knew for 5 mins because we knew that we wouldn't be judged by each other and we could talk about similar things (video games and anime).

Once upon a time it was hard to find friends who like anime, but now I have them in spades. A lot has changed over the last ten/fifteen years, in my experience. I don't even attend cons.

I've also never been embarrassed about my interest, though, so I think that's what draws people out. If you're bashful about it, it makes sense to imagine others being the same way. I'm generally very upfront about my love of anime.

None of my friends in real life have ANYTHING in common with me anymore except that we go to the same school and breath air. 99% of my friends are just attractive people........
But the people that DO share my interests areeeee uuuhhhhh hard to deal with. I mean i love anime but i don't think it's fun to argue in public about a plot hole.

I like my anime friends, sometimes we'll have arguments and discussions on our favorite animes, worst animes, best anime, etc.
The longest I've gone talking to my friends that like anime has been in the later hours of morning. From 8 pm to 4 am.

I personally love to make friends with people that have the opposite taste. Those who have the my likes or nothing approach don't do well with me as I'm all over the board with my anime preferences.

I've actually lost a good friend and his daughter because they both were so insistent that their tastes were the best and anyone who disagreed were argued with or yelled at. In a shrinking violet in most of those loud situations and I can't force to be friendly when I feel the other person is being unreasonably hostile. So I had to walk away.

I've always wanted an IRL anime friend, but none of my friends like anime and use it to pick on me so I guess I ran out of luck.

I've got one friend, my best friend, who is into anime, and my ex-girlfriend likes it a fair amount, too. Anime isn't really my main hobby though, so I don't think it would bother me to not have friends who are into it. I've known a lot of guys who like anime, but I have a hard time being friends with guys, for some reason.

not too concerned about different interests as long as there's something in common, but personality and intelligence is a major factor. Bland idiots should keep away.

Sometimes it can be easy as pie and sometimes it's very hard, I get possessive with things I like.

Nope, my friends think anime is some taboo hentai sh*t... Which pisses me off I wish I had an anime friend IRL tbh
