If we're going in that direction.... Ai Yazawa would be crowned. Nana's been on hiatus longer than D.Gray Man

Very fair. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of shonen

That being said, lets all just be happy about one thing if nothing else. Our authors are at the very least still alive. As long as that's the case, there's still hope. In relation to this sentiment:

Rest in peace Kaze no Stigma. Rest in peace

They really need to stop making Idolmaster releases...

There is a running joke that miura is too addicted to idolmaster to work on berserk now. problem being that some people apparently don't realize that it is a joke. it is entirely based on off-hand comments he made in the back pages of Young Animal years ago about him buying an xbox 360 with idolmaster and then talking to a friend of his about funny idolmaster videos he saw on niconico. it actually reminds me of the notes from nobuhiro watsuki when rurouni kenshin was being serialized when he said he bought a psx or neo geo...the important part being that he said that he barely had any time to actually play it. I have no doubt it's the same case with miura, but some people still don't know the full story and are spreading misinformation about his work habits.
I don't know the entire reasons behind berserk being so behind, but apparently the research is so serious and in-depth that miura actually made a trip to europe to learn about naval battles for that last arc berserk was in (i dont have a source for this, just what i heard). i would imagine that he's done similar things before. There is a good explanation behind the recent lack of chapters, because presumably he's been working on Gigantomachia for the last several months. berserk should come out more regularly after this is done serializing (we have an actual date for this btw).
Finally don't underestimate how long miura's art actually takes him. it's not the entire reason obviously but it is definitely a factor. seinen manga tend to not come out as often as other genres anyway because its mostly serialized in monthly magazines, and the art tends to be a lot more detailed since the mangaka has more time. sometimes this can lead to a case like vagabond or berserk where the art is so intricate and masterful that the schedule might end up slipping because of it.
it also bears mentioning that this manga is dated, as in, we know when the chapters will be published and when it will end. miura probably just wanted a break after writing berserk for so long, he'll continue working on it after this is over.

As for hotd I'd say whenver the author finishes Triage X?

HOTD's author is Daisuke Satou, he's sick. The one who does Triage X is Shouji Satou, who is only the illustrator for HOTD.

Can we now agree that there has been more discussion of the HxH hiatus than of the actual manga itself?

I think Hunter x Hunter will be on hiatus for quite some time. There is a new Dragon Quest game coming out for ps4 sometime soon. I imagine Togashi is brushing up on his DQ skills before it comes out. If anyone is to blame it's Square-Enix for releasing the Dragon Quest games lol. It must be some kind of conspiracy.

The Idolmaster thing is just a joke and shouldn't be taken seriously. Miura works 15 hour days, without holidays. Berserk is his life's work. He'll get back to it eventually.

First time coming across this explanation, sounds a helluva lot more plausible.

Also, someone mentioned Black Lagoon, anyone know wtf happened there?

As for HxH, I wouldn't be surprised if it came back in the fall, although I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't come back for much longer. The only reason it's on hiatus now is because Togashi has back problems (I don't remember exactly but he might have had back surgery last fall??) and I can imagine that it takes a while to recover from that, especially since writing/drawing manga takes a lot on the back.

Cherio~

I thought he had carpal-tunnel that was causing him some serious pain or something like that?
