I've yet to read the manga but the synopsis spoke to me too well.

And I really feel for the guy. Many years of having no one pay attention to him(nice guy with a heart of gold) and all the girls look at his good looking best friend(who shows very little emotion);
And even when he saves a girl on a train who was being molested; who ends up wanting to know him more than his friend, he doesn't see that because of what he has dealt with all over the years.

I like this. I really like this kind of romance.
Where the girl falls for someone for "who he is" and not for "what he is and what he has."

Mawkish? Definitely not.

I like this show, but I really wish I liked it more than I do. But Takeo is the lynch-pin. It might just be a case of how much each viewer's own experience of high school relates to what's happening on screen, but for me there are a lot of similarities, so I'm rooting for the big guy. For that reason, I'll see it through to the (bitter?) end.

It's not a series for everyone, and plenty are going to hate it, but it's sweet and earnest and that counts for a lot. Besides, it's subverting the traditional romance formula, and I'm all for that.

Yes, as an extremely large, muscular man, it speaks to me on many levels.

All that i can say for sure is that this series is a lot more frustrating than Nisekoi. Like Raku as a protagonist is pretty darn oblivious to everything, but he can rationalize most situations correctly, he just never says or does the right thing. Where as in Ore monogatari Takeo is super oblivious. I do grant that he hasn't had much experience in the past to realize that someone actually likes him, but idk, from any standpoint it looks pretty obvious...

As far as relating this show to my own experience... well i suppose it speaks to me a little. I wasn't in the exact same position as Takeo was in highschool, but I was definitely one of the less attractive one of my friends. But my transition to high school was a huge culture shock. I knew nothing about relationships and i saw them happening all around me. I was well liked at my school, but that was about as far as it went. I had gotten turned down more often than i had been approached by anyone, and the one relationship that i did get into was really one sided and unfulfilling. But since then i haven't been in any other relationship, and maybe i do let some people slip through my fingers, but nobody has really approached me with the same tenacity that Yamato has, so yeah, i guess that's why its a tad aggravating to watch. I do really enjoy it though and i plan to watch the whole thing.

I also have a friend that reminds me exactly of Makoto and i definitely like that

Yes! I actually look something like Takeo, except not nearly as tall. I was just as athletic and dense as he was in high school. God, so many missed opportunities...

If anything I'd identify with Suna more. Not the part about being constantly approached by girls, but rather the part of being extremely aloof. I am not the type to become easily infatuated like Takeo is.

I think it's fun to see Takeo becoming more social and more.... Gentleman... with Yamato.

The lack of drama and conflict in this show feels somehow... refreshing, if not a bit boring. However it's nice to see an unlikely lead get the girl right away. They deserve each other, I find.
