just wondering if this is a genuine release of SDF Macross or a totally bootlegged version.

I heard the 2014 re-release was awful. ~_~...

It's a bootleg. I looked it up on Ebay and it has a region code of 0. There's very few region 0 DVDs that are not bootlegs. The original releases of this either had 7 or 9 discs not 4.

Looks to be bootleg by the cover.

Due to the ratbastards at Harmony Gold, you can only find real Macross in a select few places

onestly macross never entered the international market in its original form, due to the era it was in of course. If it and english text, especially 'super dimension fortress' it would have hiragana/katakana, or the series would be rebranded as Robotech as it was sold in the west, that is my opinion at least.

Nope. It was released several years ago in North America by AnimEigo. I managed to buy a genuine copy before their license expired and it was interesting to see the scenes the Robotech hatchet job had removed.

ADV managed to pick up the licences for the other two parts of Robotech; Genesis Climber Mospeada and Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross at about the same time. However, doorstander may be correct that they also released Macross after AnimEigo lost the licence.
