For a country that pumps out hentai/Eroge doujins and JAV like a factory it always boggles my mind whenever I see this study pop up again and again given how sexually charged a large portion of their population is.

Japan has a serious problem with over-working its citizens. They need to actually incentivize people into getting married and making some damn babies.

Also, the entire hikkimori population needs to leave the "gal games" alone and actually go out and meet women/men.

Staying true to your waifu does not make you a good husbando.

Obviously neither of the sexes knows how to communicate their interests to the other.

Nothing wrong with not having kids ... I repeat NOTHING WRONG WITH NOT HAVING KIDS... Perhaps the Japanese have realized parenting is overrated so is the whole family thing... You do realize that most of you will have a family and that mini van with six kids because you "think" that's the normal way to live and that it means a more full filled life than some one who doesn't do that... I am with Japan on this one.

Having kids is costly, very much so in dense populated cities. They require lots of time, dedication, and grueling hours of work to support. It's harder to have a flexible schedule and do whatever you want too. Some people are unwilling to surrender that.

I apologize for having absolutely nothing to say on this in advance.
But i would like to thank all of you. I learned something absolutely new today, and for that i am less ignorant on the topic.
So yeah, thanks

I think it would really help them if Japan was more open to immigrants, and gave more incentives to move there. It would result in more people working ( the immigrants) which would mean that everyone has to work less per person. This would allow them the time and energy to try to find someone special.

Well, the birthrate in the UK has declined too, fortunately for them they have some immigrants. They aren't the only country like that. Even places in the Caribbean are like this. Many are waiting to start families later in life due to economics and careers. As you know fertility decreases with age especially in women so by the time work/career is sorted some find a partner, get a house etc they have trouble reproducing and sadly it's too late for some. Populations fluctuate, that's life so Japan's situation isn't really very unusual. I think those who think Japan should have a better immigration policy have a personal vested interest in moving there themselves. It's up to the country to decide what's best for themselves whether others like it or not.

I always find commentary like yours funny. I don't think I've ever seen people out on the first few dates that had their phones in their hands the whole time - but if you're a couple months or so in then browsing a phone while waiting for food really isn't a big deal. My boyfriend and I both browse Facebook for funny posts while we're waiting for our meals out at restaurants. I don't think the phone thing is as big of a problem as people always seem to want to say it is. I mean if you're going to a movie theater for a date then you'll obviously be watching a movie the whole time, and that's a really common thing to do, especially on a first date. How is that any different?

It can be fixed with immigration. That's all I have to say on the matter.

Actually it's more than Japan. South Korea, Singapore and most of Europe all have declining populations. This is an economic apocolypse because of the welfare state. As stated earlier, the young support the old in these countries, which will destroy the economies in all of these countries when there is no young to add to the economy.
Other problems, include a selfish desire for self instead of family. Also a lack of faith and organized religion.
