Uzume from Ai Yori Aoshi is a perfectly normal ferret. But that still makes him fun to watch and entertaining in the show.

I have yet to watch an anime where the MC's friend is actually stronger than him/her. I mean actually in DBZ it happened but just for a little bit when Vegeta turned into a Super Sayan, but it didn't count because Goku was sick in bed. And I think the MC doesn't have to be the strongest one to get that tittle.

Male MC that is a) confident with girls and b) conscious about girls falling for him. And you still can have a anime that last, all is not over when MC get the girl...

Similarly, support females that don't fall for the male MC, even if he's cool / so nice / whatever. You can help someone out of friendship, you don't need to love / blush / get confused.

This is particularly true for non romance anime.

I also find that the mentor / initiator archetype is missing in lots of shonen, or strange like Eina Tulle in DanMachi.

For seinen, female characters that are moving the plot more than their ... curves. I miss Balsa Yonsa type.

In slice of life, adults that aren't weirdos and have a role to play.

MCs in high school that aren't denser than osmium
Characters that actually confess kiss and date
Characters that destroy the 4th wall
MCs that don't have a harem just because they're nice
Childhood friends that win
Stupid protagonists
Female harem protagonists
Characters that don't have sad backgrounds

The list goes on forever so I'll just leave it at that.

Anime that revolve around married couples. I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying is unique in that regard.

Anime centering around middle aged and senior characters.

Anime with detailed character faces, so they're not distinguishable just by eye color, hair style and voice. I like Attack on Titan a lot for this very reason.

Usagi Drop is very unique in many ways. The main character is 30 years old and adopts the illegitimate child of his late (technically making the child his aunt). It's also very grounded and forsakes a lot of typical anime tropes.
