I usually use the 3 episode rule more as a "Will I watch it weekly or watch it all at once when it is over" more than drop or not.

I can tell usually within the first episode if a show if for me or not, yes this can change sometimes with heavy/awesome first episodes that then dip into meh territory after that. Or vice verse with it being an AWFUL first episode that turns out to be a great series.

Here is one anime that should have gotten its boring parts out of the way in 3 episodes. Instead it was so dull and mindnumbing for 6 episodes.

Really you could fall asleep watching this anime it was so dull. However after episode 6, shit hits the fan and it becomes a rollercoaster ride of mindfucks for the last half of the series.

I actually initially dropped this series. I picked it up again after finding out later how the series ends. It was the same thing with School Days for me actually. The ending of the series is so awesome that it's worth watching the rest of the series just to enjoy the ending to its fullest, no matter how horrible the beginning of the series may be.

I dropped that one too...

What happens?

I may go back and watch it if it's really worth it.

EDIT: Also, the quoted comment is exactly why if there's an exception to the three ep rule, you'll still learn about it: SOMEBODY out there has stuck with it probably, and can let you know.

Here is what happens :

Damn.... Now I got to see it. >.<

Just finished rewatching xxxholic because I didn't realize I had watched the whole thing before (thought I might have seen only 13 eps), and started watching Tsubasa...

Thanks!

this rule is as effective as the 3 seconds food dropping on the floor rule.

you just never know when an anime will get interesting. sometimes it can be the third episode. sometimes it's the second season is where it gets interesting. personally i liked season 2 of aldnoahzero, but found it hard to make it through the first season.

I thought that was 5 second not 3 seconds?

Thank you for correcting me.

You're welcome.

I would sort of compare the first 6 episodes of Blood C to Haruhi's Endless Eight.

When you want to bore your audience, bore them just enough for them to understand that you are making a point by boring them on purpose... And not to the point where they start thinking your show is just crap.

If I make it to episode three I'm probably going to keep going regardless of how much I like it. I guess feel like I've already invested myself and my time into the characters so I might as well keep going. If I stop watching something it's usually after one episode (or less).
