Well millions of other people on the this planet have thought about that; you aren't alone no matter how you look at it. You're still young and you have plenty of time to figure out what you want do in life. In fact, make as many mistake as possible! No one made it a universal law that you had to stick to your first choice or that you must have a perfect goal in mind. Find something that you want to do and things will settle into place just fine. If money is an issue then ask around for advice from people who know what they're doing or work part-time.

As for society and that fitting in or aiding crap, kick that off to the side. This is about what you want, be selfish about it. Whether you live or die tomorrow, time won't halt to mourn your passing nor would others care.

Now this is what I call the deep thought section

As my professor said, no one knows what they want out of life until they reach their 50s

I have a good job that pays the bills and for whatever else I wan't, but I don't feel like it's where I belong. Even so, I know how fortunate I am so I don't feel lost, I'm happy.

You're only 17. When you're much older and still feel like that? That is when it'll be a problem for you. I recommend getting a major in something that'll let you stretch your legs, switch your career to something else if you get bored. A business or engineering degree for example will open up your options more than english or art.

I'm only 17 of course not. People often change careers throughout life anyways so I'm prepared for that. It's good to learn about the field that you're interested in before trying to do anything. That way you only lost some time. Read up on what happens in the field and maybe talk to some professionals if possible they would probably be fine with talking to you about it.

I joined the Army National Guard during my junior year of high school in spring of 2012. I was a student at University of Phoenix for a good year and dropped out because I have better paths to follow at UNLV. Most of my education will be through the military, however, I will be going to this school for the experience as well as a master's degree in English because why the hell not. The military is my life, I was an Army brat myself. I am genuinely satisfied to be a part of the elite 1% of this nation that has balls. I am glad that I can endure the suck for those that can't or do not wish to.

I study law and currently work for a very prestigious firm as a legal assistant (not trying to brag). I know a good number of people that would die to be in my shoes right now because I'm on the right path to becoming a prestigious lawyer in the near future. Now, have I found my place in society? Not really, even if I'm doing everything right. I don't care about becoming a superstar lawyer or the legal career for that matter.

Becoming a prestigious professional in my field of work is not my goal in life, it's just a means to an end: a higher finality set by myself and not by society, to achieve financial freedom and do whatever the fuck I want.
