This is a problem i have quite often whenever I hear news of a new anime in a series or are looking for another anime to watch. I research and find a title that I most likely have already seen or have forgotten about and so I decide to watch it again no matter how long it is.

Just Recently I was looking for something new to watch and since I know I have never seen Steins;Gate I decide to research it a little and found it was from a series of Visual Novel from Nitro Plus and know that I have seen Robotic;Notes but was unsure if I have seen Chaos;Head so I'm now re watching the whole things because of my insecurity.

So the question in this big convoluted explanation is if this has ever happen to you?

Lol I never forget which series I have already watched..

I tend to re-watch shows I REALLY liked or sometimes if its been more than a year, I will re-watch a series that is the prequel to another anime that has come out.

The only series that has warranted multiple (4+) watches is Neon Genesis Evangelion; and that's because I always notice something new every time I re-watch it.

I sometimes notice new things when I rewatch, sometimes forget a few of the smaller details but on a whole I don't forget a show I've watched. Might forget the name but that's about it.

Mostly rematch for the enjoyment of marathoning the anime from start to finish. Makes it a great viewing when you see the whole journey, aka death note or inuyasha.

How can you forget if you watched something or not :P

I remember every anime i watched. Also every plotline in detail and mostly every character interaction in each series ( Monogatari series is the exeption for obvious reasons + other dialogue heavy anime)

That's also why i never rewatch, i remember them too well.

Googling a few pictures/screenshots can remind me either way. There are definitely shows I've seen but couldn't tell you much about anymore, though. Like I've almost entirely forgotten everything from the Index/Railgun series.

And if I go really far back I'm not always 100% sure if I only watched part of or all of a show.

Well, one anime I'm going to rewatch is Toward the Terra series from 2007. Thanks to the movie that came out 27 years prior to the show, I'll have a better chance of understanding its story.

I'll sometimes start watching an older anime only to remember that,"hey, I've seen this already!"
After several hundred watched now, over many, many years, that's going to happen. Also, I might know it by a translated title and don't recognize the Japanese or vise versa. Wiki and ANN is your friend.

I'm very picky when it comes to the shows I watch, so most of them have been awesome experiences which can never be forgotten!

So eh.. no haha haven't experienced it, but it sounds like a pain.

Yes. frequently.

but I don't do all that research. I just forget. It sucks because about halfway through a show when I realize why it all is way too familiar...
