Is One Week Friends shojo, or does it defy classification aside from "drama"? 'cus that's quality stuff right there.

Yona of the Dawn is allegedly shojo. It certainly tries to be. But it's quality too. Say, is there a genre for tomboy shojo? That'd be a fitting description of Yona I think.

Sailor Moon is...well, maybe not a great example.

I think the difference is the age of the intended audience. Shojo shows aimed at girls in the upper-end of the age bracket are more likely to have a broader appeal.

it is only inferior if you are a guy lol.

imo there are trade offs to both, they may focus on different things even from a technical standpoint.

Huh, it seems that it isn't shoujo, just slice of life. Fooled me though, thought it was.

Cute outfits.

Perplexing perms.

Idol-esque song and dance routines.

Small in statue.

Cruelty disguised as kindness.

So loli.

Also for the record, Cross Ange isn't a shoujo either.

One Week Friends manga is published in a shounen magazine.

As for the topic, I have both seen more and liked more shoujo anime than I have shounen anime.

I feel you bud, blows my mind what is considered certain genre's these days.

Hm, I'm trying to stop classifying shows by demographics - since they're somewhat... misleading. Especially with the seinen shows I enjoy like Gochiusa and K-On Though, I often fail and revert back to old habits of classifying things by demographic.

But moving on to the topic - it depends on how you define quality and inferiority. I don't know much about the anime industry, but I would assume, on average, shoujo series might have slightly lower production values (again, just throwing out wild, unsupported guesses here).

I tend to vastly prefer shoujo series to shounen personally. That's just personal taste though.

I don't think it really matters though - so long as there are people who enjoy the stuff. You'd be surprised how often i've had to argue that anime itself isn't inferior to Western animation.

So, to summarize, I guess my answer is "Maybe? But I don't believe that line of thinking is particularly useful" or something like that.

EDIT - But I guess I should clarify that even that guess is referring only to production values. When it comes to story, setting, characters, etc, I personally don't even believe in inferiority or superiority when it comes to most forms of media and art.
