Not anime, but I have considered learning Japanese for light novels. Many of my favorite shows were adapted from light novels that, as far as I can tell, will probably never be translated.

Not exactly. While I learn some words and stuff, I don't go off to really study Japanese. I've learned some meanings of words and how to read Hiragana and Katakana through this. But in terms of learning the language and everything involved, I'm just not motivated to do so. The language is quite tough when it comes to reading Kanji seeing that there's just random scribbled to me with no pattern whatsoever to getting the meanings down. And of course there's the sentence structure that is agonizingly difficult to get down. While I would like to learn it, I just don't have the need to since it will only be useful if I do go to Japan someday, and even then it might not be necessary depending on where I go.

I would say that yes, anime has influenced me to want to learn Japanese.

I really like to learn new languages though. Currently I speak Spanish (main language) and English, Japanese would make me trilingual. So I won't say the whole reason wouldn't be for "Anime/Manga" purposes.

Where I work, knowing more languages open up a lot of possibilities, so I would have that as well.

Even if you only want to learn it because you want to watch anime without reading subtitles, that's a good enough reason to learn a new language. Learning new languages is always good, and is a satisfying experience imo.

I have not started yet, but I do plan to start soon!

It does, it's on my list of languages to learn. I don't mind reading subtitles though, I think it's just curiosity that makes me want to learn it.

Anime? No. Novels and Light Novels make me want to learn it. There's so much out there we never get.

I want to learn Japanese so I can read their visual novels and light novels. Japan has some of the best forms of entertainment, and I hate not being able to enjoy it. Also, if I ever do go to Japan I want to impress.

I feel the same way for all languages in the world. It's almost how I learn Spanish from reading a newspaper just like my grandfather. Considering that its part of my heritage.

I wanted to learn Japanese partly, because of the light novels and various other stuff, but mostly because i just like learning languages.
I know 4 languages already & that makes me pretty happy and i've always wanted to learn at least 5 (:

It does cause then I can watch it without the subs and enjoy it more, saving me reading and watching together, but I also want to learn Japanese cause I think it'd be cool to learn another language

Man, who the fuck came up with this "weaboo" word? It's driving me insane. If you're a huge fan of anime so be it, why the fuck do you have to be shamed for that?! Next person who says that, I'm gonna stick a knife in you.

original

あきらめて出発!
actual meaning: Give up on this and let's go! (the other character wanted to enter the bakery and eat some sweets iirc)
LOLSubs: Don't give up! Let's go!

xD Wai wai wai, n this is gonna be so bad for more serious anime, 'specially those ones I wanna hold on to every detail, ahaha
