I've had a couple friends call me senpai (one of whom is actually older than me), probably because I've got sort of an academic air about me. While I admit that I inwardly enjoyed it to some degree, I also didn't feel too comfortable with it, since it's a hierarchical sort of term, and I don't like to feel like I'm not on even footing with someone. They stopped after I asked them to a couple times, so no big deal.

Lots of people who know that I'm an anime fan (and who don't consider me weird for it) call me [name]-san, which I'm considerably more comfortable with. It's nice and neutral, while calling attention to one of my primary hobbies, so as far as nicknames go, I've got no problem with it. Funny, though, that I'd be weirded out if a stranger used it, rather than just my name: the polite and neutral -san honorific is, in my case, an indicator of familiarity.

In general I wouldn't really mind.

Though my ex called me senpai a few times when we were going out. God it felt so awkward.

In the end, there's a time and place for everything.

I do judo, so you address brown belts as senpai, and black belts as sensei. Other than that no.

It would be fine if it were in context but if it was just done to be ironic or funny, then its just annoying...

I have a few acquaintances that tease me when I respond to them with their saying "senpai noticed me!" I'll admit it amuses me. I'm not normally a very social butterfly so I honestly don't respond too often to people unless I am interested enough coincidentally.

As I said on the other thread some guys that I teach japanese call me senpai all the time and I really like how it sounds XD

My name is short so it sounds like a nickname XD

So anyone that feel like it can call me senpai ^__^

Had only two people refer to me as Senpai, though it was mostly master. 1st conned me with £5, though he did repay me by saving my ass with some homework and getting a few bullies off my back before it got worse. Even stuck his neck out for me once when no-one else stuck up for me.

Ironic thing was he went to surprise me, by getting a thin piece of wood and poking me. Actually surprised him by blocking it and throwing it out of his hand. He tried several times but only once did he nearly surprise me, so I ended up surprising him by faking the hit, so i then got him with his guard down. Those where some good days, far and few between but I scared quite a few people with how fast i used the stick to defend myself, defeat the padawan, his nickname.

2nd was a coworker who loved anime/comics too. Surprised him with what was available in uk, far more than he began to imagine.\

Sadly I lost contact with both, but makes me wonder who will be the third.

If I were in Japan, I wouldn't mind.

Anywhere else, it would just be weird and it'd reek of weeaboo.
