Lol, my little brother does this whenever I help him with his college classes. I think it's funny. Wouldn't bother me if other people did it.

I wouldn't care if ANYBODY called me kouhai or senpai.
That's a neato nickname.

In the past I used to stop kouhais from addressing me with -san or -senpai, but it wasn't long before I learned that some kouhais tend to get ahead of themselves when you open your doors too easily. Senpai is fine, as long as you don't expect me to treat you lunch.

Missed the original thread. Not much on senpai or kouhai, but I do have someone in Japan who calls me "onii-chan."

YES. I would love it soo much if the little cute 6th graders and 7th graders called my senpai but i would not like to be called kouhai. No way! Plus all the little 6th graders in my school are so adorable <33333333

i don't think people would use ''kouhai'' anywhere other than when presenting your underclassman to someone else.
in all other situations, it seems quite rude. you're basically putting yourself above the other when you refer to someone as "kouhai"

OT: i don't live in Japan, so it'd be awkward to have someone call me "senpai", except as a meme of sorts that only happens on the internet.
