So there is this small fan-made convention going on near me this weekend and I've always wanted to go to one. What should I be expecting? Do I need anything? Do I have to be super in depth with anime/manga to REALLY appreciate it? I'm not sure what to do. I dunno if I wanna go now >_<

You really don't need to do anything other than show up, helpful to have some money for stuff you might want to buy.

Don't need any anime/manga knowledge to appreciate it but it does help.

Totally worth going at least once to get a feel for it.

the best advice is just go in clothes your comfortable. maybe wear like something from your favorite anime so you can talk to anyone. bring some of your own water just in case they sell the water bottles at a high price. and of course have fun!

If you genuinely like anime/manga, then that's all you need. Casuals are just as welcome (and enjoy themselves) as die-hard fans. There will be people dressed in everything from normal everyday attire to "I just got off of work" to full on cosplay, but people are usually all nice and welcoming all-the-same. If you like really popular animes, you're bound to find merch that'll catch your eye, so bring a little spending money even if you don't initially plan on buying anything. Spark up some convos, explore the convention, and enjoy yourself! ^^

Even if conventions aren't your thing, you shouldn't have a problem enjoying/appreciating it as an experience. Maybe you'll find some new friends too. Best of luck mate!

Ah, fun! Sounds like it'll be a smaller con, which is good, starting off with a huge one like AX or Otakon might be overwhelming.

Water bottle or other drinks are a must, as Aestrica says, and don't forget some snacks. Bring a camera, you'll probably see some neat stuff. Bring cash, since not all vendors take cards, and it can help you limit your spending if you try not to hit the ATM while you're there.

Don't need to be super into anime or manga, and you'll probably also see some science fiction, fantasy, games, and other things to hold your interest as well. Some people are super into it, some are just there to hang out and have fun, there's room for both
