Huh, interesting. I got what the pretext in the story was for the deferred ending, just not why it was felt to be the best ending. It's actually one of those things that is very strange when you're just getting into Japanese stuff: for example, I assume that it is blindly obvious to a practiced eye which girl is the hero's "true love match" but I quite often watch these series with no idea which gal we're supposed to be rooting for!

Apart from the good advice that I've been given in this thread I'd say: try a few and see what sticks. The great benefit of CR is being able to try a wide selection. Check out the "genre" tab as well because once you figure out how the different genres work you'll have a better idea of what interests you.

Heyyy! Thanks for the tips Sordel! I appreciate that :-) <3

I would say to start either here: /lineup is a page of all the weekly updated shows available on CR that are currently airing in Japan

or here: /videos/anime, a listing of the "Popular" (most watched) shows here.

I'm off free trial now, and just finished Toradora!, which left me wanting more. I've got a question about the end though. Massive spoiler question incoming:

I haven't read the original novels, which did not finish publication before the anime started production, but I've heard that some of the details of the ending are different, while still getting the same gist.

I don't think there's any cultural reason.

I'm thinking that since she tried to run away her parents took action against her and moved schools to punish her. I'm feeling that there isn't any cultural reason for it, just a plot twist for the end.

In a U.S. teen drama that, of course, would be the first Act closer and the hero would spend most of the movie trying to get her back! Ryuji is such an accepting kind of fella by comparison.

Mhm. Even with phones, I'm not sure Taiga told him where she went. I feel like they ended it better than having an episode with him looking.

This plays out a bit differently in the novels, where it makes a lot more sense for Ryuuji to be so accepting of Taiga's departure:

Thanks, mnmike, that makes a lot more sense.
