So I used to play all the tutorials but lately I've been kinda lazy and just jump in! Of course i go back and do the tutorial anyway after getting stomped

So what about you guys?

Back when games only came in hard copies and came with pretty thick manuals, and not just little damn leaflets to advertise other games by the publisher, I used to read those manuals every time before I played a game. Even if the game was pretty self explanatory. So yep, even if I know the series like the back of my hand I still play tutorials. Maybe not always before playing the game, but I still do the tutorial eventually.

Unless a game actively blocks progress by not doing a tutorial I usually skip them.
I like learning a game's mechanics by trial and error, I don't want to have the game telling me which button to press.

To be fair, I can't stand games that force you to do them.

I like to always be prepared, so I've always played/read them.

RPG's, hack n' slash and fighting games, yes. Because these types of games are about knowing and mastering the game's system. Every hack n slash game has a different way of playing and rewarding (some require you to be stylish, others to make 1000+ combos, etc.) so it pays to go through the tutorials.

Mindless shooters, racing, sidescrollers, no. I just learn as I go.

Depends on whether its a game in a series I've played before or if it's a brand new game I haven't played before

It depends on the game, but I mostly just learn the controls and then I'm on my way. But for some games, I pay more attention because either I'm new to them or there is more to the game that you might not figure out by just playing for 10 seconds. Like if I just started playing Runescape, I would do the tutorial because there are things to learn that you will need to know, that aren't obvious.

But even then, I don't give it my full attention. You can only get so much out of tutorials, because most things need to be learned by being in certain situations that a tutorial can't give you. Like in Dark Souls, you are taught what to push to parry but not when, against what attacks, or whether your shield could parry or not.

I generally play the tutorials, but if they get too long, I just skip ahead and Google things along the way... this may be why I don't like the Assassin's Creed games... it's like a never-ending tutorial

If it's a shooter or an action game in general, I always want to skip the tutorial since the mechanics are usually easy to learn. Sadly modern shooters don't agree with me and, instead, force tutorials down your throat if you try the singleplayer (lel). Seriously guys, there's no need to teach me to right click mouse to ADS when your game is 99% same as the other modern shooters.

Usually skip them. Although the odd game I have had to go back and look at the tutorial.

I always play the tutorials and read the printed manual if there's any.
