alright so ive got an enigma of sorts that has driven me mad ever since i started watching anime often there was a show that had either aired on Adult swim or on toonami while cartoon network was airing it back in the day but heres all the information that i can muster from my memory. i'm gonna describe the setting and what happened in the episode and hopefully someone may have an answer. It takes place on what appears to be an elite academy of sorts the most memorable parts of it is its clock tower. The campus also had secret or restricted access areas as well. The main character seemed to be some kind of chess master because the villain seems to be challenge him at chess a lot. the climax of the episode though was where 2 of his friends were captured and strung up in a basement beneath the academy that was gained access by one of these secret/restricted areas and appeared to be located beneath the clock tower particularly and is forced to choose which of his friends should live or let him and his friends die due to the bomb that was placed exploding in the case that he could not choose which to survive. Thats all the information that i can muster from memory i've been trying to figure this out for ages it showed on either toonami or on adult swim back around 06-07 it could have been before or after that but have yet to stumble across the answer hopefully someone knows cause this haunts me all the time and id really like to go back and watch the show
