Black Flag is the most obnoxious sounding of the famous punk bands. Henry Rollins is incredibly dull, which is detrimental to the effect they're going for as a punk band, and he sounds like a highschooler trying to do other punk singers while puking out blood on a hospital toilet seat, and it doesn't even matter if he succeeded in impersonating those punk singers, because the band has poor chemistry imo, and the vocals always seem to not make sense with the music.

They're nothing special, at least in my eyes. And it's not a discussion of accessibility either. I just think they're trash. Let's get Yes in there first before Black Flag is even in the discussion.

And I don't like Husker Du either. None of their songs jump out to me in any way. But at least they aren't as irritating as Black Flag is.

Cheap Trick should be in there. The truth is that I just don't listen to them that much. Pretty important and good band.

Seriously though, I'm disappointed every time I hear a Black Flag song.

I base placement off of influence not quality. Quality is subjective lord knows I would throw a ton of bands out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that probably deserves to be in there.

Secondly you cant really say the Black Flag has poor chemistry until you listen to all there albums. They changed members all the time so each lineup had a different sound. Check out Slip It In if you want to see how good there chemistry got with Kira on bass.

Sorry for being such a jackass, but I just feel like they sound like garbage. I would listen to more of their albums if I even liked one or two of their songs, but I just can't get past it.

I agree on the rock hall failing to recognize culturally significant acts that aren't visible to the casual music listener, but The White Stripes deserve to be in there. Maybe not more than Joy Division, the Pixies, or possibly Sonic Youth (imo, they're way better than them), but definitely more than Cheap Trick, Husker Du, and Black Flag.

Holy s**t, Joy Division though. Get them in there! First priority. F**k Green Day, Pearl Jam, and whatever else trash they're putting in. They're putting Ringo Starr in, for Christ's sake. That's what you do when you run out of artists to put in there, and they sure as hell haven't!!!

You should read Our Band Could Be Your Life.

Joy Division (even though they were 1st) doesn't have a chance unless The Smiths get in. I think the Pixies will get in eventually. I'd also like to think that 1 Hardcore/80s Indy band besides the Pixies will eventually make it in. Of that group there is the Minutemen, Sonic Youth, Black Flag, Bad Brains, Fugazi and The Replacements that all may have a shot.

Green Day, eh their music is meh to me. However the generation behind me seems to like them so I'm not really arsed about that. I'm just surpised they got in so fast.

Pearl Jam defo deserves to be in. Though, like all bands who play for decades, haven't made any good music since Yield. However they have an army of very good-great songs. They were IMO the best live band of their generation. They also have critical and popular acclaim (there has been a little revionist history but its PJ and not Nirvana who were the biggest band of the 90s - there was literally a line 1/2 mile long outside the record store the midnight Vs. was released).

Anyway fav guitarist: Basically the people who were mentioned like Hendrix, Page, Richards etc.

One person who hasn't been mentioned who I think is highly underrated is Brian Setzer (and I don't even particularlly like Rockabilly). This is one of the best concerts you'll ever see

There albums were recorded on the cheap but they were living in shacks without any heat so it wasnt like they had alot of money to spend.

I don't mean anything about recording quality. I'm talking about the band's actual sound.

1.joy division needs to be in because they were the signature post-punk band

2.the pixies need to be in for their influence on grunge and alternative rock in general. Their influence stems as far as bands like modest mouse and arcade fire

3. We need some signature punk acts in the rock hall of fame. Black flag is awesome and all, but I would prefer if bad brains got in. They were arguably the most talented hardcore band and one of the most unique.

4. I love white stripes, but lets let the cars, judas priest, and iron maiden get in first. Still can't believe it took this long for deep purple to get in. That is insane. And how does Metallica get in but genre forerunners judas priest and iron maiden don't get in. That is insane

Jack White is probably my favourite current guitarist, but I also have to throw some love out for Mike Oldfield. Maybe not all that well known but he is such an amazing player with such a unique sound and tone. Plus, his musical talents in both playing (guitar and pretty much every other instrument) and composition place him far beyond the level of your average guitar player.
