a good combination between hip-hop, rap and rock is a band called rage against the machine whose guitarist tom morello is pretty cool. Also, check out the beasty boys if you haven't

I've think I've listened to a bit of Rage Against the Machine and I love the Beastie Boys.

Also on the topic of the Rock Hall of Fame it isn't surprising that not a lot of artists that many believe deserve to be in there just aren't. Cheap Trick just got inducted this year and the Sex Pistols back in 2006(They didn't attend and Johnny Rotten posted a note on the group's website stating “Next to the Sex Pistols, rock and roll and that hall of fame is a piss stain,” going on to say, “We’re not your monkeys, we’re not coming. You’re not paying attention,”).
I mean only a select few artists from the huge genre of metal have gotten into the Hall. The Hall also tends to lean toward super commercialized punk artists as well such as Green Day and the Foo Fighters variety. Some women are even left out of the Hall entirely such as Lita Ford and others that should definitely be there. Madonna and N.W.A have both gotten into the rock hall of fame before many other deserving candidates and yet they leave out so many. The Hall overlook so many different artists that don't have the same super commercialized success of other inducted artists.

If anything I think this author makes even better points than I can at this point seeing as how he was one of my sources for a term paper I had to write last semester on the Hall. Plus I'm roughly summarizing a ten-page paper I wrote on this.

Also, more on artists who basically said "fuck you" to the Hall and where I got a quote on Johnny Rotten's letter:

Also on the subject of the rock hall, it is amazing that deep purple and Chicago just now got in. also, it amazes me how metallica can be in the rock hall of fame, but judas priest and iron maiden aren't. Also, i was irritated when the cars didn't get in either. the cars were like the first U.S new wave band too. And if you are a progressive rock band, then you might never get in. Rush practically had to fight to get in.

Metallica and Black Sabbath are the two token metal bands that got in and those two seem to represent the genre as a whole for the Hall. Fuck I mean the Golden God Awards was basically created in 2012 so the Metal artists could be represented and have their own place(just how I see it though). There is even an award dedicated to Dimebag Darrell and his memory. There are much better places to be recognized than The Hall. Literally, the Hall is just absolute shit because it fails to recognize a shit ton of artists who deserve to be in there. In all honesty, I can not stand how blind and ignorant the Hall is to non super commercialized artists.

it is also funny that it is called the rock and roll hall of fame, but there are plenty more of pop stars. rappers, and hip hop artists that keep getting inducted as well. I mean if people could get in regardless of genre then it would have been called the music hall of fame. However, it isn't and the hall seems to place more value on commercial success and public favorability than artistic merit. for instance, green day gets in but no other punk rock band as even been considered for the most part.

The Hall is run by people who probably have never bought a single album from an artist that wasn't super commercialized. This is a board of people who are big wigs that do the voting. Even the bands that are put up for the public vote are pre-selected before the general public can cast their votes. The people who run the Hall know next to nothing about the bands that don't get super commercialized. The Hall really does not stand for rock and Roll as a whole include all of the branches of rock. I honestly think it's worthless to have a Rock Hall of Fame when pop stars, hip-hop artists, and rappers get in before other artists that should have been inducted before them. The Hall is really just one big popularity contest.

Sounds a little like our own election system in the U.S to me in some ways

Sadly, it kind of is in some ways. But instead of government officials running a country, it is a much smaller scale that determines which artists get a trophy and how they are remembered long after their time is over and done with.
