How much would you give to live?
Posted 4/22/15
Tsunku is a Japanese music producer, who is most known for founding Hello! Project, the biggest J-pop idol music group in Japan. He also was a fairly famous vocalist for Sharam Q. In March of 2014, he announced he had laryngeal cancer, and was undergoing chemotherapy. This past fall, he announced he was in remission, and then a month later announced he had cancer yet again.

Nothing was known of his condition for a while, until this past winter. He made his first public appearance in almost a year, walking out on stage, standing in the middle, and lowering his head. The words on the screen behind him began to flash across...

"I have chosen to live, and in doing, have decided to have my vocal cords removed".

He chose to have his vocal cords taken out, leaving him unable to speak or sing ever again. He is a mute now, to make sure he never has a remission of the cancer again.

It stunned me personally, as I had seen countless interviews and listened to countless songs where he did backup vocals. To think now that same person no longer has a voice was unsettling to say the least.

Angelina Jolie had a preventive double mastectomy to avoid ever developing breast cancer, and Tsunku had his vocal cords taken out. It really made me think just how much are you willing to give to stay alive? If it meant living, would you do the same, or not? I feel like it's better to be alive than it is to be dead, so whatever it takes to stay on this Earth is worth doing.

I'd give up my vocal cords.

Great excuse to not talk

Chemo is sometimes worse than the actual cancer.

If I had it at say like 16 yrs old then I would probably go through the trouble but if I'm like 80 with no family left, I'd just let the cancer take me.

Also depends on how far it's gotten, what part it's at ect ect.

Can't argue with that I would give almost anything to live. The only things I won't give would be control of my hands, sight, or hearing those senses are what makes life worth living in my opinion. What good would living be if I couldn't hold my family or see a new day? If I couldn't enjoy the music I listen to for hours everyday.

I think hes extremely brave for that, However personally, if I had cancer, I wouldn't want them to tell me.

Chemotherapy is fucking brutal, and the chances of remission are always high.

I believe those who love life enough to go through all that hassle are wonderful people, but I don't quite know if that's what I would do at the moment.

However, given I have never really been in a life or death situation besides being held up at gun point, I cant really say for certain what I would do given the fact when I was held up.. my mind went blank and I actually came to terms with if I was going to die, I was going to die.

However, a friend of mine who was in the military said he wouldn't mind dying, but when his platoon was pinned down and they were running low on ammo, he and one other guy hid inside of shitting hole for 24 hours till the enemy moved along.

If I was told I had cancer, I would probably be so terrified of the thought of actually dying a slow painful death I might get that organ removed too.

I have thought over this question for a while and if something like cancer did come around i would of course try and treat it but if the only way to be treated is life changing then i would rather just live out the year i have left in then be done with it. ive done all i wanted to (apart from finishing gintama) up to my age so far so i could die happy.

At the moment I don't fear death, I have lived a fuller life then some people twice my age have, so if there isn't any other option or I'm in an accident I accept it. Now if I have a chance at survival, then of course I'll try to survive. I've never been one to give up at anything so I'll try my hardest to survive. The only thing is, if i'm just a nonfunctional piece of meat, then just put me down. There are plenty of other people that could use my organs for the better.

i'd do whatever it takes man, but at the same time i don't want to live until i'm like 100 years ago where i can't take a shit by myself. that is too long unless the care drastically gets better and scientists are able to reverse the effects of aging.
