I somehow knew this was a Phersu thread just by looking at the title. Am I becoming psychic? Or am I just psycho? Can I really see the future or am I imagining it? I don't know what's going on. Help me, Dr. Phersu!

I recommend.....

You go back to the future.

Abnormal Psych is the most interesting, but we don't get much into it in AP Psych since its not really tested. Are you up-to-date with the DSM-V and the things they added/taken out. currently I just watched the video on the Ferguson(I think that is how you spell his name) experiment.

They added Asperger's to the Autism Spectrum, so now it's just called an Autism Spectrum Disorder instead of that. Another interesting one is they added gambling and gaming addictions as well as Binge Eating Disorder.

Anyway you're not a professional at all and you don't even have your BA so this entire thread is.. interesting and silly? You said aspiring also so why are you running an AMA and playing psychologist? And already deciding your concentration without (I'm assuming) taking a proper course on it? Hahaha

If only I had a disclaimer specifically saying that this is just for people who are curious in the field, and not for actual mental help.

Oh wait. I do. Poor Deer. Illiteracy was his/her/its undoing. Also, as an FYI, I have taken courses in Psychology. Including Abnormal. Which is why I know I want to do it. Don't assume. You know the saying about assuming. Except it's really just you.

Not an actual desk....but oh well.

So, I've been watching Comical Psychosomatic Medicine, and I thought I'd open up this thread for those interested in the field of Psychology to discuss or ask questions about it. Plus, as an aspiring Psych major myself, a lot of this will be a good review. Two birds, one stone.

For starters, the field of Psychology isn't limited to Abnormal Psychology, which is mental disorders. There are quite a few, with Childhood Development and Social Psychology being just two others. Personally, however, my field is Abnormal Psychology. This is what the focus of the anime is about, and probably what most people think of when someone mentions Psychology.

Abnormal Psychology is the field of clinical psychologists and psychiatrists, as well as anyone (qualified to do so) who offers help and therapy to those suffering from mental illnesses.

So, fire away. I'll answer to the best of my abilities, as I hope others in the field who frequent these forums will.

As what should be an unnecessary disclaimer, but one I'll put up regardless, please do not rely on the internet or any of this as a substitute for professional help. If you believe you are suffering from a mental illness, please seek help from a qualified professional such as a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist. This thread is only for satisfying curiosity in the field.

With a thread like this I couldn't possibly keep myself away with how interested I'm into Psychology. Although my specific interest in Psychology happens to be the Behavioral Neuroscience(psychopharmacology and addiction) aspect of it (i.e what occurs in the brain to cause a certain behavior).

Reading everything you type has been a nice way for me to recall some things I've forgotten since I've been getting more and more specialized! So thanks for making a thread for people with an interest in Psychology! It's always great to spread some knowledge around! I can help answer some questions people may have as well!

That's a shame, considering psych related anime talk is a fine idea.

To anyone with psych knowledge who hasn't already left. Seeing as how I have (at best) a very rudimentary knowledge about psychology, I can't really say how psych knowledge affects a person's enjoyment of entertainment media, but it seems like it probably would. Do you habitually analyze the psyche of fictional characters? And how often do you find that a fictional character's psyche seems realistic or plausible? Do you find that it affects your enjoyment of the story if a character doesn't meet your expectations based on your analysis?

So how's about that 5-year half-life of Psychology? What's the deal with it?
