Wow I came here cause I thought maybe there might be some psych related anime talking.. sad to see it devolved into negative banter. I will take my B.A. in psychology and my A.A. in biomed and be on my way. Good day sir.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

hmmm.. some psych I can remember and some I can't...

Ok.. Can you explain Maslow's heirarchy of needs?

and then Kohlberg's 6 stages of moral development

and what are the different "families" of mental illness? Psycho-somatic would probably be considered one, for example...(break it down tree-like.. Kinda like we do with different species? ya know, kingdom, phylla, family, order etc... just a nice general one. ya don't need to break it down to each illness)

Finally, can you explain Jungian terms like anima/animus, shadow, and archetype?

I'll come up with a few more as I try to recollect..

Maslow's Hierarchy is the order of our needs, with the bottom being the ones we need to fulfill basic survival needs. We can't move onto satisfying the next need in the Hierarchy until we do the one below it. The top of the pyramid is Self Actualization, which is realizing our true selves. The very bottom is basic food needs.

Splitting up Kohlberg's 6 stages into three groups, there is Pre-Conventional, Conventional, and Post-Conventional. The first two stages, the Pre-Conventional, centers on avoiding punishment and self-benefit. The two stages in Conventional is about obeying the law and social norms. Post-Conventional's two stages is more abstract, and is about what is universally right and wrong instead of the laws of society.

There are different categories of mental illnesses, but they aren't really called families. Clusters? Way too many to list all of them.

Some big ones?

- Personality Disorders.
- Psychotic Disorders.
- Anxiety Disorders/Phobias.
- Sexual Disorders.
- Depressive Disorders.
- Dissociative Disorders.

As for Jungian, I'm not too up to date on those. Anyone else?
