Is personality formed by interacting with others or is there a biological component? What ways are there to change your personality? Is it possible to change your personality all by yourself? If it's possible, how much time does it take?

I am stupid so I don't know anything about this phenomenon called personality. I'd appreciate it if you could educate me on this matter. Another option would be ignoring me/this thread. Do as you please.

There are a bunch of different theories that try to explain personality and there isn't just one approach to this. It's ultimately which explanation you support the most or whether or not you decide to go for a eclectic approach (which is what most people do anyway). But I'd say both, temperament is definitely biological and certain traits like extroversion and introversion are assumed to be biological too. It's a whole mixture of both environmental and bio factors etc etc

It's formed by stories lol

It's easy to change for the worse, but it's harder to change for the better. Which is weird, isn't it?

Pretty sure a personality is formed from interacting with people, environment and genes.

My own opinion would be this...

I think that everything about personality is changeable. Most of it is shaped by our memories, thoughts and experiences and maybe a little bit of the initial forming is done by genes. My theory would be that even our most basic personality traits that we take for granted are actually formed during childhood and caused by experiences we can't even remember. The only barrier would be whether you actually want to change it or not.

Personally I have changed myself significantly after I stopped thinking that everything about me is set in stone. Interactions with others can help but are not necessary. It can be a very long and painful process. When your in the middle of trying to change yourself you can get this identity crisis that a part of you wants to go back to the old and a part of you wants to keep going. Internal conflict can really put you down.

I can't think of any specific methods to change personality since it really depends on what you want to change.

Imma build on this, as that's a pretty good explanation of what I want to say. But I'll summarize it, just in case.

Your personality is entirely in your control. However, your personality controls what you want your personality to be (among other things), so it's quite hard to change.

Being one of those people who's spent over a year in solitude and contemplation, that's probably the best way to change your personality. It's surprisingly effective..

I don't like being flamboyant to make people see me that I have a personality.

Can I just be at the corner looking sexy while brooding?

You can't change who you are just what you do, as for biological personality I have no idea.

You can try to change your ways, probably with mixed results. It would be hard as hell, but possible to some degree.

The most commonly subscribed to view, even amongst psychologists and other such scientists, is that it is a complex mesh of biological and environmental factors. A person may be more prone to anger or optimism or depression, but a person's experiences have an undeniable impact on who they are and how they will behavior. I could build on this more, but... meh.

There are so many factors that can determine your personality. Environment, your parents, the people you're around, and if you're mentally ill or not.
