Not really someone I looked up to, but my friend was always egotistical and a bit of an asshole and it all just went to his head so much.

Lots of cleaning has been done to this thread.

I hope you learn how to express yourself in a way that helps your friend.

It is damn near impossible at times, face to face.

have personally never been in that situation.

but i think i just learn from an early age, that people can sometimes be not what they seem, on the surface.

the more people are goodie goodie, the more i'm terrified of them because you just don't know their true nature is like...

I used to look up to my father, but things have changed. Well, I certainly have changed.

Lucifer would seem like the anecdotal metaphoric poster child for this phenomenon.

I never really looked up to anyone when I was younger, no one was really worthy of my admiration.

Yeah, the realness is worth hating.

What am I supposed to do, though, lie? Ignore people?

Ignoring is really hard, I think that's what the OP was talking about.

EDIT: I only mean that I'm not going to lie, it's just not an option.

I feel kind of bad that there has never been someone I have looked up to. I guess at least I don't ever have to see them become a disappointment.

that's totally natural as well, not everyone looks up to someone else

That's so true. I think that's a good way to handle it. I'll try to see it that way.

Nope, I expect everyone to disappoint me. That way I can be pleasantly surprised if they don't

I used to look up to my dad a lot.
But now with how he's treated me and my mom.
I just wish he'd leave us alone already.

I feel like this, too. Out of the couple people I look up to I found out they both came from some messed up past's and they changed their ways. One of them fell off, but I still watch them, waiting for them to get back to that person I so admire. If they don't I will always remember the person they were and still respect that person and way of doing things. Cuz even if someone is able to be like that for awhile, doesn't mean you have to believe there was something wrong if they fall off. N I wanna believe if you stumble you can get back up.

As for the other person, I'm not too sure how they're handling their self now so it's hard to say.

I'm not too happy with Mr. Tom Jones these days.
Having an affair is one thing
not having the decency to divorce your wife once she KNOWS for THREE YEARS
is bullshit.
Well, really all three of them are bullshit. So.

I used to look up to a former high school wrestling buddy, but then an incident happened where he was at fault and I heard around that he hated me and my brother for something, again, he was in the wrong for. Needless to say, it's all in the past and no longer matters.
