Fan Service a deal breaker?

It's not a deal breaker but it can ruin a show. I suppose it really depends on what kind of show the fanservice is in. For instance if it's some silly little comedy it's really not a problem, but if the show is trying to be serious or dramatic then it will easily wreck it.

It has a place but it doesn't belong everywhere.

Kill la Kill does the fan service overtly so for some reason I can take that show seriously in its ridiculousness. The fan service that puts me off is when people sneak it in in totally unrelated scenes and it kills the mood (like in SAO 2 when it randomly focuses on Sinon's ass during dialog). Shows that are up front about it like High School of the Dead don't bother me at all.

I don't mind fanservice, and I usually enjoy it when it's there even in large, obnoxious doses. I can also enjoy a non-fanservicy anime just as much though.

So no, not a deal breaker for me at all.

Yeah shaft"s way of using fan service is completely different from others Shaft is one of the only studios I can tell is involve in a show by art style alone.

I totally agree with the SAO II fanservice being a turn off. The Sinon fanservice was a tad ridiculous and unneeded. I mean I don't mind the goofy parts at all. Like when she undresses in front of Kirito and reveals he's a guy. SAO is great series but I don't think they have to resort to those fanservice-y moments during dialogue >>

Yes, fanservice is a dealbreaker for me. I am not interested in it and I have dropped a few shows because of it. Though normally I don't start to watch an anime if I know it have much fanservice.

By the way, I'm sure I have seen several threads about this topic before...

But the real question for me it would be, why some people get so upset when someone say that they disliked an anime because of the fanservice?

It really depends some shows I dont mind it others I can't stand it and drop it. Think it mainly has to deal with the characters and story, if I like those two things then I can handle the fan service but it not then I drop it.

This season I watched Triage X and Gunslinger Stratos, both equally bad shows about people shooting each other, and so far I have only dropped Gunslinger Stratos. Thus fan service can be a deal breaker.
