Do you find it awkward to watch anime either with siblings/family or when they are present? Even though everyone in my family atmosphere is 20 or older when my sister's back from college etc, it would be weird for me to watch R rated anime, a straight-up romance, or stuff containing sexual content. Though what exactly feels comfortable to watch depends on whether my family is watching with me or if they're just in the room. Any anime suggestions? How are you about this kind of thing?

I'm careful about the anime I watch around my wife; partially because if the anime isn't very good, she'll start making fun of it, and partly because she already has a "anime = porn" bias, and I don't want to watch anything too ecchi around her that might reinforce that belief.

If you want suggestions:

A good slice of life show are always good things to watch: Usagi Drop, Barakamon, and The Eccentric Family come to mind.

Smart, dialogue heavy shows with minimal fan-service: Monster, Spice and Wolf, and Serial Experiments Lain all come to mind. Maoyu might work too, although there are lots of boob jokes (fully clothed, but still).

A good non-harem, non-high school action/adventure show, if violence is acceptable: FMA/FMA: Brotherhood, Trigun, Eureka Seven, Samurai Champloo, Ghost in the Shell, Attack on Titan, etc.

Well my brother and I always watch/discuss anime together. Our parents think we are strange and tease a bit, but have just kind of accepted it I suppose. They may think your weird but they haveta love ya anyways right? ^_-

I got one my sisters hook into Nisekoi hehehe. Her favorite character is Shū Maiko. And she also likes Tsugumi.

The other sister of mine aka my little sister age 14 years old. I show her this scene. She have a perplex look and a the same time was intrigued by it. I think she also have a smile on her face. Seen her smile is super scary. That when she start to ask me things and get demanding.

I even watch anime on my TV. Yeah I love my family but they have not say whatsoever in what I watch and enjoy.

My dad like Dragonball. Another anime my dad also likes is Hungry Heart: Wild Striker. My dad a one time have the Funimation channel on our house.

I don't find it awkward. When I did live back at home years ago I found it amusing at the very least. Their reactions were priceless. I still remember my mother attempting to watch DBZ back in the day... Ahh good times. Maybe that's where she got all her yelling from? (jk)

I watched Bleach, Naruto, One piece, DBZ, Code geass and Fate/Zero with my mom and bro.

I would avoid the fan service animes though.

I honestly don't care what my family sees and sometimes their reactions can be quite amusing so I generally don't worry about what i'm watching around them unless i'm watching a really ecchi show.

My 2 younger brother don't really like anime execpt for the main stream one. The older 1's only anime is One Piece, while the youngest one is only Fairy tail. Me and my sister on the hand watch a lot more anime and tend to watch 2 or more series per season.

Was watching Himegoto when my youngest brother come in, he is 11 years old that time and a long awkward silence happened.

Haha. I remember my Dad saw me watching Kill la Kill once, after standing there and observing for a few seconds with a bewildered expression on his face he said, "This, this is why you're so fucked up." My younger bro watches anime now due to my influence, but parents have never really been exposed to it.

Rofl, did your dad really say that to you? Or if it's not funny, sorry. Sounds like something right out of anime.
