Sukumaran. Cool name for a villain. Sukuruman sounds better though. Maybe Sakuraman.

I personally do not think mere possessors should be punished so harshly.

Having had lots of experience with drugs, I can safely say that most people who have problems with drugs are those who ALLOW it to be a problem. I do agree that some punishment is warranted for those who are caught, especially suppliers, but a death penalty is excessive.

Keep in mind that:
-Unregulated manufacture is responsible for most of the harmful adulterants that street drugs are known for
-Dealers and suppliers do not glean the most benefit from the sales, those who benefit most are the manufacturers or those otherwise at the top or near the top of the supply chain
-Illegality is not necessarily related to immorality
-The death penalty should be reserved for the most depraved criminals for the sake of proportionality in the punishment of wrongoing
-Drug use is often a victimless crime
-The list of illegal drugs and the respective severity of their impacts is in need of serious re-evaluation

However, other countries do not have the same laws as the same laws as the native countries. People entering other countries purposefully avail themselves to the benefits of that country and, so, should be obligated to follow the laws of that society, that country. Essentially, they are entering a separate world and need to be aware of that. They can't expect their own countries to bust them out while they feign ignorance or are actually ignorant of their non-belonging.

i heard the australian federal police was the one who tipped the authorities in indonesia when those two were coming to australia?

why not arrest them in australia? if they don't the criminals to be persecuted under indonesian laws?

i don't think any country should tell another country what to do with their criminals... to be honest. using international relations/influence to help a prisoner is weird. it's like a form of blackmailing.

(not that i think the execution was right) But i don't think it's right to blackmail a country because your citizens (who broke the laws) are being executed.

_______

it's also borderlining childish to pull the ambassador away or whatever. it's like saying, "Hey, you don't do what we've asked you to do, so we're going to stop helping your poor citizens (who have nothing to do with the laws/execution) now".

i'm ashamed to be living in australia, tbh. what kind of immaturity is this.

Do I feel sorry for their families? Yes. Do I feel sorry for them? No.

In life, everything you do has consequences. They knew getting caught pushing heroin in Indonesia could get them the death sentence, they did it anyway. They weren't kids or teenagers, they were adults. Also, being a foreigner does not mean you aren't subject to the laws of the country you visit.

I do agree that executing them was harsh. Long stretches in prison, imo, would have been enough of a punishment.

Some extremities are put in place (Such as life in prison or Death) to stop others from following in the criminals footsteps.

Sadly some people are ok with taking risk, specially when large sums of money and addiction is involved.
